Spottedlaurel Posted February 6, 2021 Posted February 6, 2021 Great to see another completion and more progress on others. The relevant Skyline and Leopard parts got primered last weekend and I can now start getting some of it assembled. I need to get the suspension on and wheels and tyres sorted, that'll dictate how the bodyshell sits on the Skyline's floorpan and I can then work out the interior and underbonnet detailing.
Misha Posted February 6, 2021 Posted February 6, 2021 Congrats Kurt, your build is really ”Imprezzive”! Looking at your Thule pod, with its front beam and sprouting antennas reminded me of an avionics or jamming pod slung under the wing of an F-16. It’s a great way to disguise any electronics package that may be inside, such as an active radar detector that frys radar guns perhaps? Great build with the engine detail and overall weathering, great motivation for the rest of us, Cheers Misha

That was the intent of the cargo box, I could say there is jamming electronics, GPS, etc. Almost looks like a drone too.
Chynese Randy Posted February 10, 2021 Posted February 10, 2021 Nice work to everybody getting stuff done!!!! I sat and stared at the IMSA Mustang for days with a few ideas, but I've never done any scratch building whatsoever. I threw it to the side and started on the 06 Camaro with an old 86 Nascar engine. I still have a few months to do stuff.
disconovaman Posted February 10, 2021 Author Posted February 10, 2021 With the Hobby room down for reno, I'm having separation anxiety with my absence in modeling. I'm helplessly trying to eliminate the noisy floor by pulling the nails and replacing them with three inch screws. Hopefully my efforts will pay off as I'm also installing high grade carpet padding. My one true complaint with the new house was my hobby room is over top the master bedroom and when you walk in there it creeks like an old house. (It was built in 2006) the problem is whoever is in the bedroom can hear what sounds like the ceiling ready to fall on them. Since the room was only meant to be for storage, there was minimal floor work done to it. In the mean time I have made some ebay purchases related to modeling to fill the void for now...? and watching the builds progress here helps too!

I would suggest putting down some 1/2" spruce ply over that aspenite, and 2" screw it every 4"....and I really would have put some Rockwool insulation into those joist pockets first Great looking so far !!

Thanks, yeah I was really limited on options, just short of pulling up all the OSB which is tounge and groove and starting over from scratch. I want it fixed but I definitely don't have that kind of money and also that's a massive project... The room is 400 sq ft. As for the three inch screws, that was an accident but so far they haven't been a problem, the plumbing is on the opposite side of the house. If it is still noisy I'll be sad but atleast I attempted to fix it... would've been nice if they'd used that soundproofing beforehand.??
Belugawrx Posted February 11, 2021 Posted February 11, 2021 I hear ya there, construction materials and deliveries are incredibly expensive here now...something about a virus Cannonball on !!
KWT Posted February 11, 2021 Posted February 11, 2021 Wow you guys are killin it.. I'm still looking at mine.

If the room was only meant for storage, it may be that the joists supporting the floor aren't heavy-duty enough - there is a big difference between ceiling joists and floor joists. Maybe worth checking that out before you go any further with the flooring. Well worth persevering though, it's a great looking space!

You're definitely onto something there because there's actually a message to the builders written on the floor. About what "Only" to do in that room. It wouldn't surprise me if they used different joists. It's a great space, but the garage is beside the master which means on the other side of the wall is another large space you could finish off for another room. It even has a window in it. I thought about finishing it but I'll definitely have to hire a contractor for that project.

Yeah - I'm not a builder but I wonder if there is a way to beef up the joists in the room you're working in - maybe a great idea in theory...! Good luck with whatever solution you come up with. Do 1:1 cannonballers have these problems? ?

Pete75 Posted February 13, 2021 Posted February 13, 2021 (edited) #5 Audi Quattro Paint is finally going on things! ? The body mods are completed, everything sanded & scribed and the primer has erased all traces of tinkering: The resin alloys are finally done: I've never spent so long tidying wheels, but I'm happy enough with the result. The rest of the running gear is all painted, washed & weathered ready for assembly... Edited February 13, 2021 by Pete75
Danno Posted February 13, 2021 Posted February 13, 2021 Nice stuff, all you guys!! Guess I better get in gear and glue my engine halves together. ? ??

Alright..if you're gonna start gluing, I need to get started... The box is now open...lol. I've been looking it over, trimming up the flash and cutting off a few things here and there. I've determined that my idea is not going to be as easy as I had initially thought... but it has actually intrigued me a little more.

Always satisfying to get to the stage of having a series of painted and assembled components to attach.
Spottedlaurel Posted February 13, 2021 Posted February 13, 2021 After lots of painting on the engine, transmission and suspension I had the pleasure of getting the basics assembled this weekend: 1:24 Nissan Leopard/Skyline kit by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr 1:24 Nissan Leopard/Skyline kit by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr First trial-fit with the actual floorpan I'll be using, with a little bit trimmed off the front end to get it sitting about right. There's even a tab on the chassis which should fit into the remnants of the notch inside the bodyshell. 1:24 Nissan Leopard/Skyline kit by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr 1:24 Nissan Leopard/Skyline kit by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr 1:24 Nissan Leopard/Skyline kit by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr I've shaved a little bit off the top of the inner wings, to give me some flexibility in getting the right ride height. I need to fit a closing piece between the bulkhead and scuttle panel, but otherwise everything has worked out pretty well under here. The body is in primer with an unintentional bit of gunmetal topcoat (I got confused and picked up the wrong bodyshell when I was painting the other weekend!). The front suspension has been adapted to suit the female fitment wheels - they sit out a touch further than I want, but there's scope for a bit of trimming. Haven't yet mocked-up the rear end, but it shouldn't present any great problem. The big front brakes with their Brembo calipers just fit inside my chosen wheels. I might add a little bit of depth to the front spoiler, otherwise the bodywork will remain standard and be finished in an appropriately early '80s colour, probably gold or bronze.

camaro69 Posted February 14, 2021 Posted February 14, 2021 (edited) Hi Guys, it´s four weeks now since my entry post here. Had some time to build but no time to post yet. But here is my progress... First: Closed the rear quarter windows to make a wide C-pillar and rescribed all the panel lines... Second: painted the headlights and cut out the hood to make the engine visible... Third: Changed my mind on the wheels ( choosed some self-designed 3dprinted Racing Hart with different offset on front and rear) Fourth: Made the Impala interior fit the Nascar chassis... Fifth: Created a new front end... Last but not least: Tuned the rear end... That´s all for now. Hope to get some mor done soon... Greets, Rico P.S.: Congrats to the finishers. You cars are looking killer. Edited February 14, 2021 by camaro69
