misterNNL Posted December 28, 2020 Posted December 28, 2020 What a great idea! I'll be watching for sure.
misterNNL Posted January 1, 2021 Posted January 1, 2021 IIRC those 1:1 bubble tops production line parts that were used to create the iconic '62 Chevys were actually excess roof sections left over from the '61 Chevy hardtop production. Chevy decided to use them up by mating them to '62 convertible bodies. I have always loved that '62 body type and evidently they are quite rare in the real world. When they were new I only ever saw two of them.
espo Posted January 1, 2021 Posted January 1, 2021 I like your concept with the roof change. To my eyes the flat roof from the '62 does away with the crown in the roof that the '57 had and gives the impression that the roof has been chopped.
carnut Posted January 1, 2021 Posted January 1, 2021 I too like the direction you’re going with this. I also have an AMT new tool 57 Bel Air going and I got curious one night, so I grafted in a 58 Plymouth Belvedere roof on mine. Please keep your project going.
Pat Minarick Posted April 30, 2021 Author Posted April 30, 2021 I have worked on this a little, still not sure what to do with it.
NOBLNG Posted April 30, 2021 Posted April 30, 2021 I agree, the roof change looks great on this car.?
misterNNL Posted May 1, 2021 Posted May 1, 2021 When everything else fails try painting it. I would not paint the roof a different color than the roof though. Might try a dark metallic gun metal and keep the suspension on the down low side.

The roof compliments the curves of the front top fender/door line, the wheel well openings and the Bel Air side trim. It emphasizes and repeats the curves on all three locations. It also lightens up the upper part of the car, by eliminating the heaviness of the original roof without compromising the original design of the 57 Chevy. Great design idea, Pat! This is what Chezoom should have been.
Pat Minarick Posted May 2, 2021 Author Posted May 2, 2021 Thank you everyone. I Googled '57 Chevy the other day and couldn't believe I found this picture ,not a hardtop.

espo Posted May 3, 2021 Posted May 3, 2021 I'm with bisc63 on the roof being from a '59 or '60 low line GM two door car. Whoever did the 1:1 did a great job.
Oldmopars Posted May 4, 2021 Posted May 4, 2021 I have never really liked the 57 Chevy and one reason was the roof. With this roof it looks great, completely changes the lines of the car. I can't wait to see this thing done. I love it.
