papajohn97 Posted May 20, 2021 Posted May 20, 2021 (edited) Enjoyed my first museum trip today since the shutdown last year - the NHRA Museum in Pomona, CA. It was really an excuse see an old buddy and meet half way (I live north of LA, he’s down in South Orange County). We’re both retired and it was really nice to get out of the house and spend a few hours together after a long absence. I think we both thought “boy did my old friend ever age a lot!” The museum staff was still cleaning/ preparing the place after being shut down since last year. It’s a nice collection of 1:1 cars although reduced from the last time I visited (5-7 years ago?). Other than us two and a few other visitors, the place was empty. The highlight was seeing Barry Price’s excellent collection of 1/25 drag car models. Here’s a few pics I took. Price is a very talented builder from the UK and I believe one of our fellow posters here on this board, Marc Weller, did a fabulous job repairing the cars in this collection from the damage they encountered during shipment to the museum. My friend is not a modeler but he was equally captivated by this collection. Check it out if you’re ever near Pomona, CA. Enjoy, John Edited May 20, 2021 by papajohn97 Removed duplicate photo

Rocking Rodney Rat Posted May 20, 2021 Posted May 20, 2021 WOW!!! Now THAT is kool!!!! Talk about inspiration!!! I gotta go check that out on one of my trips to LA some day, hear that ADL??? Thanks for posting.... -RRR
Straightliner59 Posted May 20, 2021 Posted May 20, 2021 I remember Barry sharing them on the old StraightLineModeler Yahoo group. I think he built every iconic drag racer! It sure seems like it. He was retiring from modeling, and wanted his models to go somewhere that others could enjoy them, in perpetuity. His collection is amazing!
Force Posted May 20, 2021 Posted May 20, 2021 I have been to the NHRA Museum several times...I believe it's 5 or 6 so far and last time was November 2018...and I have seen the models there. Together with the old race cars this display is well worth a visit and I have met legends like the late Tom "The Mongoo$e" McEven and TV Tommy Ivo there at different times. If you time it when they have their Twilight Cruise car show first wednesday each month outside the Museum, when the pandemic restrictions are lifted, you have much to see and the admission to the Museum is free.
Motor City Posted May 23, 2021 Posted May 23, 2021 That's a very thoughtful and generous donation to the museum.
Dave Ambrose Posted May 23, 2021 Posted May 23, 2021 It's a wonderful model display. I spent more than a few minutes looking at it on my last visit.
Sam I Am Posted May 26, 2021 Posted May 26, 2021 I went through there a number of years ago and brought back plenty of pics of those models.
