Mark, have you considered the one piece plastic wheels and tyres from the Beverley hillbillies Oldsmobile truck?  I will see if I can take a photo for you of the oens I ahve compared to the Model T wheels.

This is going to be a very handsome vehicle when it is done.  Your conversion work so far looks very promising.

Cheers

Alan

I haven't had a lot of time to work on this lately, I've been busy fixing the broken dryer, lawn mower and everything else that happened last week:angry:. I did manage to squeeze in enough time to get the top about done. I shortened the overhang of the windshield too, like "espo said it was a little too much. It still needs the inside finished but it looks like a roof now. The car to me is starting to look a little like the picture.

Hi Mark, as it happens, I have both a set of the Oldsmobile wheels and a gluebombed 29 Lincoln in my stash so i got my wife to take this photo of me holding the wheels and tyres up to the fenders.  I reckon they would do!

I would love to send you these wheels but unfortunately the COVID tax means that it would cost me around $25 to send them and they would arrive sometime around Easter!  I hope you can find some locally and cheap - there can't be that many people that want them!

Cheers

Alan

Thank you everyone for the compliments & feedback. I really appreciate it, it makes me want to keep going forward with it & not just shoving it back into the box.

Hi Alan, thanks for digging out all those parts and taking the picture for me. It looks like that is the way I'm going to go with the wheels on this thing. I'm sure I'll be able to find a set somewhere around here. $25 is nuts to mail something like that but I appreciate the thought. As for getting it around Easter, I'll probably still be working on it by then at this rate.?

Thanks again, Mark

I'm sorry to say that I passed over this topic when I first saw it since a '20s classic car doesn't interest me but, wow, I love the scratch-building and theme that you've done so far. Your description and photos are full of good advice for any modified model. Thanks for posting.

Thanks Grant, I do the same thing. I'll over look something for a while because the car isn't my style but I really should look at all of them.

I worked on bed the last few days and it doesn't look like I accomplished much. I still have a bunch of sanding to do but it's getting there. I think the hardest thing for me is to remember to take pictures while I'm doing this. The tow boom isn't the one I'll be using but it works for just seeing how it will look.

Your project is looking very interesting. That boom resembles a Weaver 3G unit quite a bit. I'm tuned in for sure.

Thanks Tom, that boom was a test build for my Model A wrecker I built a while back. I tried to make is resemble the Weaver 3G but it's not quite right so it's my "does it look right in there?" boom.

I got a little more work done this week but not much. I shot some paint on the body, which I'm not happy with but it will have to do. The picture makes it look bright blue but it's really much darker. The seat, dash & door panels are painted too. I finished the exhaust but forgot to take a pic. I'm probably going to use the wire wheels because I can't find any wooden ones that I'm happy with but we'll see, I still might work on making some T wheels work.

Thanks Carl. Well, it's up on all 4 and I had to use the wheels it came with. Those Beverly Hillbillies kits aren't so easy to find anymore and my T wheel experiment went not so good. It should look ok with the wire wheels plus I found a photo of an old wrecker with wire wheels & it was towing a bus so technically it would work. Anyway, the body is painted & so are the fenders. I have a little more to do on the top before I'll be ok with it. It's getting there, slowly, mostly because of my little new friend that wont leave me alone.

The body and paint look almost to nice to be a work truck. Amazing to look at old photos and see just what some of these old rigs could do when they had to.

impressive work Mark.  I can’t remember when the last time the Beverly Hillbillies Truck was reissued.  Now it will pop up in one of chads videos.  I think it’s looks better wit the wire wheels.

Please don't tease me like this, I'm dying to make this look worn & used but I said I would try to make it shiny.? I got the body mounted to the chassis, interior finished & the top is as good as it's gonna get. I have to paint the headlight bar & some other parts but of course it's raining again today. I was going to glue the radiator in place but I don't dare until the hood is finished. Once the car, "now truck" is finished I'll start building the wrecker boom.

Sorry, it's just that you do used up so well. This build is turning out so nice I wouldn't change a thing. Looks great, maybe a tow rig for a new car dealership ?

Mark, very, very cool project and excellent to see your body scratchbuilding process.

I am pretty sure that somewhere in my archives I have a photo (slide) of a similar 1928 Lincoln Pickup or Wrecker, built by a model artist with the name of Dick Groenheide or something similar to that.  The paint was two-tone beige and dark brown metallic, and while the pickup/wrecker bed was a separate piece rather than an extension of the body as yours is, I recall the model was beautifully done.  It would be way beyond cool to see yours finished sitting next to his.

Best of luck and best wishes bringing your project to completion....TIM

Thanks Tim, my scratch building skills can't compare to most people here but I try. I'd love to see the other Lincoln you mentioned. Although, I wouldn't want to see it next to mine because then I would see just how bad mine is.

I finished to hood & mounted the radiator & headlights but now I have a new issue. I asked my wife what she thought of the model & the first thing she asked was "Why is it shiny? Aren't you going to make it a junker?"? After I got done laughing I told her it was suppose to be a nice shiny car. Then she wanted to know if the top should be a flat black. When I look at the picture of the actual car it looks like a canvas covered top but now I'm not sure. What do you guys think? Flat or gloss top?

Most canvas or convertible tops that I can recall would range from a semi gloss, newer convertibles, to a flat finish usually. Period wise I would think the canvas would be on the flat side, just my thought anyway.

Everything about this one looks great!

Whether or not the roof is correct, it looks right.

I also like the doggo looking for lunch.
