TransAmMike Posted November 28, 2021 Posted November 28, 2021 (edited) Does anyone know of a similar hood scoop in a kit or aftermarket?? Thanks for looking. Edited November 28, 2021 by TransAmMike
Ace-Garageguy Posted November 28, 2021 Posted November 28, 2021 Musta been from something, 'cause here's one on a '56 Chebby: 1
Ace-Garageguy Posted November 28, 2021 Posted November 28, 2021 This was on eBay listed as "vintage Ford super duty or Pontiac"...but the listing is gone.
Ace-Garageguy Posted November 28, 2021 Posted November 28, 2021 MORE INFO...I've found several listings for this scoop called variously Pontiac, Catalina, and super duty. I'd look at some '60s Poncho kits.
Ace-Garageguy Posted November 28, 2021 Posted November 28, 2021 (edited) Here's a real one (not what you asked for, I know, but just trying to point you in a possible direction for a model source): B48 CATALINA HOOD SCOOP 57 58 59 60 1961 1962 1963 64 65 PONTIAC SUPER DUTY https://www.ebay.com/itm/125013575153?mkevt=1&mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&campid=5338722076&toolid=10001 Edited November 28, 2021 by Ace-Garageguy 1
Muncie Posted November 28, 2021 Posted November 28, 2021 Steve Magnate over at Motor Trend has some answers - It's a scoop from a Ford truck that Pontiac also used on some 1963 drag cars - both the trucks and the Pontiac used the Super Duty name - Junkyard Crawl: The “Scoop” on the Super Duty Scoop! (motortrend.com). Unfortunately, I don't believe it has ever been in a kit. 2
Mark Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 I scratched one (dimensions taken from a 1:1 scoop), cast them, and sold a bunch of them, but don't have any in stock, and haven't got a mold right now. I'm going to try to have some more cast to sell at NNL East next April. The 1:1 item is a Ford heavy truck scoop, but GM bought a bunch of them and assigned a Pontiac part number to it. They later had to assign a part number to the hole needed to make the scoop functional. About ten years ago, my older brother scoured a couple of heavy truck junkyards in the area, and scared up a couple of them. Before he flipped them on eBay, I borrowed one to measure for creating my original part. 1
Mark Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 That one is on a later truck. This scoop is an early Sixties item.
Mark Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 Looking at the recent book on Arnie Beswick, there is a photo of this scoop on his '61, none showing it on his '62 (which had a louvered hood), and it pops up again on his '63 cars (both Catalina and Tempests). Pete McCarthy's excellent Pontiac performance book also includes a number of photos of this scoop, all on '63 cars. Period photos show the scoop being used minus the trim and screen at the front, but cars put together more recently seem to favor leaving the trim in place.
chris chabre Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 (edited) The original use for those scoops were on the Ford F700 and larger trucks of the late 50s/ 60s. and into the early 70s. Pontiac then used them on the super dutys The trucks they were available on are: 1957-1963 F700-1100, T700-950, B700-750. 1964-1969 F750-1100, N750-1100, T750-950, NT850-950. 1970-1972 F750-950, B750-950, LN600-700 Edited November 29, 2021 by chris chabre
stavanzer Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 Neat Information! That is why I like to read here. Ford Parts on a Pontiac. Would've guessed! 1

I thought it was the same car I built a commissioned model of for the owner about a decade ago. Had to look at details to see it wasn't the same--I'd completely forgotten "mine" had a white top. 1
Sledsel Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 Ford started using that scoop in 1957 on the larger super duty trucks. It was used til at least 1971, maybe later. In the early years it was forward facing. 1
TransAmMike Posted November 29, 2021 Author Posted November 29, 2021 Wow, a lot of cool info here and I appreciate the effort you guys putting into my question. Since it looks to be pretty near impossible to find on I guess I'll scrap that idea. I was gonna use it on my '62 Catalina build.
Casey Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 T/A style shaker scoop might be a good starting point: 1

Casey Posted November 30, 2021 Posted November 30, 2021 (edited) Looking at Mark's scoop again, I think the T/A scoop would be too narrow. Edited November 30, 2021 by Casey
stavanzer Posted February 25, 2024 Posted February 25, 2024 (edited) Mark. Ever Find the Molds for this scoop? Looks like there is still a market for them. Maybe a 3D print? Edited February 25, 2024 by stavanzer

blizzy63 Posted February 25, 2024 Posted February 25, 2024 I'd like a pair of those scoops to build a more accurate early version of the '55 Nomad "Wompin' Wagon" which had two on its hood. The AMT kit supplies only a "Ramcharger-type" hood scoop.
