Miatatom Posted January 4, 2022 Posted January 4, 2022 (edited) I'm building a replica of my last vintage race car and can't find or scratch build a suitable set of mirrors. There are 3 mirrors. The one on the right side is round and the ones in the center and left side are oval with flat bottoms. Here's some pictures of the 1:1. Hopefully, someone knows a good source. Your eyes aren't fooling you, yes, it's right hand drive. Edited January 4, 2022 by Miatatom
NOBLNG Posted January 4, 2022 Posted January 4, 2022 If you can scratch build the housings somehow, you can use this stuff for the mirror.

Have dealt with both companies in the past. Service has been great.
Bainford Posted January 4, 2022 Posted January 4, 2022 (edited) Nice Frog Eye. The 'flat bottom' mirrors look like Sebring Mach 1 mirrors. Many Lotus Europas were fitted with these, and the Tamiya Europa Special kit has a good representation of a pair of these. The round mirror looks a lot like ones that came in [some?] AMT '68 Shelbys. Apologies for the filth on the Shelbys in the photos, they are old models in serious need of cleaning/restoration (the all black car being my oldest surviving build). The chrome sprue is from the Tamiya Europa. Edited January 4, 2022 by Bainford
Venom Posted January 5, 2022 Posted January 5, 2022 It’s weird, I’ve been trying to find those same kind of mirrors ever since I built my gold GT40, but to no avail... All the mirrors I’ve seen are too long like the “bullet” style mrirrors shown above. I thought about taking those bullet mirrors though and sanding them down to look like the ones you’re wanting, but worry that they won’t turn out right
Miatatom Posted January 5, 2022 Author Posted January 5, 2022 I really appreciate the recommendations for the mirrors but my model is 1/25 and the mirrors are 1/24. I've gone ahead trying to scratch build some. They probably won't match the ones on the 1:1 though.
peteski Posted January 6, 2022 Posted January 6, 2022 When it comes to mirrors, is there really such a visible difference to warrant scratchnuildigin when read-made ones are available? IMO, items such as mrrors don't have strictly predefined sizes (like wheels, tires or engines) to stand out they are tiny bit out of scale.
Bainford Posted January 6, 2022 Posted January 6, 2022 Yeah, forget scale. It’s size that matters. The difference in 1/24 & 1/25 for these mirrors is a little over .008”. That’s a little over 3/16” in 1:1. Potentially enough to be concerned with depending on how fine you like to work. I do appreciate adherence to scale accuracy. Kit mirrors are rarely in scale anyway. And to that end, since I have a Europa in the garage with Sebring mirrors, I measured them at the widest point of the housing and found the Tamiya mirrors are almost a half inch oversize. That maybe more than you are willing to allow. Especially since the Sprite is such a small car. That is, if it is in fact Sebring Mach 1 mirrors on your car. There are a couple copies on the market , and they may not be the same size as the originals. Just food for thought.
Miatatom Posted January 6, 2022 Author Posted January 6, 2022 I've scratched them out and painted them, so they'll be on the model in the morning. I'll take pics and post them in the Under Glass section. This was one model I wasn't going to give up on, but it's time to get it finished.
