bluestringer Posted February 14, 2022 Posted February 14, 2022 I'll be building the coupe version, color will be Createx Colors Opaque Purple. OOB build except for some plug wires.
mrm Posted February 14, 2022 Posted February 14, 2022 I always wondered what that purple would look like. Seems like a really intense color. Is there any primer or base under it? 1

Is there any primer or base under it? I used their white AutoBorne sealer under it. It was the first time I had tried it, but I didn't care for it much. It doesn't spray well or I didn't thin it enough. I haven't painted the body yet and I will probably just go back to my regular Rustoleum primer.

I used the Createx thinner. The black and white actually went on pretty darn easy and dried smooth but the silver came out a bit rough feeling. Sprayed the white and black at about 28 psi with my Mr. Hobby trigger Proton 275 (#3 tip) but had to go to my Paasche with #5 tip for the silver. Now the issue I had with the black on my current build is it scratches off easily....not good. Jury still out on the stuff for me. 1

I used my Paasche H ( not sure but it's probably a .5) to spray the white and yea it went rough in spots, not very smooth. I was spraying around 30-35 psi. I actually did try it on the 32 body and it was going on really rough so I stopped and washed it off. I may try it again on something but I will thin it a little more. I'm using their 4011 reducer. I put the purple on with a Paasche Talon ( #2 tip and needle, .38 I think) and it sprayed good with just a little thinning.

bluestringer Posted February 18, 2022 Author Posted February 18, 2022 Going with the carbed Ford engine.
espo Posted February 18, 2022 Posted February 18, 2022 Great looking engine. Your body color looks good. Will you need to clear it or leave as is?

I don't think you said what paint the purple is. By the way, I cleared my current '70 Chevelle build painted with Createx pearl with Future (I still have a good bit of the original stuff) and it came out great.

It's Createx AirBrush colors opaque purple. Not the Wicked, just their regular color line. Did you airbrush the Future or brush it on? I'm thinking of brushing mine, not sure about running through my airbrush.

I'm far from an expert at air brushing but the results were good. I just did a couple light mist coats, let each dry a few minutes in front of a space heater (hair dryer works too) then wetter coats drying between coats. For me, letting each clear coat dry a minute or so, using the hair dryer smooths out orange peel. 1
