Shopping for shoes and such....

It's come time to update some items in my wardrobe....... Shoes, and I need a new belt. Looking at these items online can be both overwhelming and frustrating! I have been wearing the same brand of shoes for years (Skechers Sport), but that only narrows down the selection a little. I do think I have a pair picked out, though.... Picking a belt isn't being very easy. You've got all these materials, double prong buckles, ratcheting types..... I just need a belt! Beltox Fine looks to make a good one. Maybe I'll go with one of theirs.......

and How do you size a belt? Do you go by your waist size, or the length you need it to be total?

Anyone else dislike shopping for clothing articles? Do any of you just let the Missus pick stuff out for you?

I recommend a handmade belt from Amish Made Belts online.  It very well may be the last belt you buy.  Made in USA of real leather, very thick single layer leather, and the quality is superb.  They will tell you how to order by size.  I try to buy made in USA whenever possible... which isn't easy these days.

Yes, usually by waist size, which, I think is the measurement in inches.

If you have a Goodwill or similar nearby, that's a good place to try on different brands and styles, with the catch being you can pick and chose which brands and styles, unless they have it in house. Still, the Goodwills I frequent have tons of belts, ties, shirts, pants, etc., but the selection can vary from store to store.

Shoe shopping is the worst, but it's kind of a necessary thing. Zappo's might be worth a try, with free shipping both ways. They are always offering nice e-coupons, too. I recently got a $40 off coupon, and promptly bought a pair of shoes. ?

I rarely buy any new clothes online with being able to try them on (I mean, how they fit is important), but I think several places have a try it at home, then return if you don't like it service, which might be worth checking into.

Thanks for the replies, Fellas..... I used to love going to the GoodWill in Wilmington, NC. It's a college town (city), so they had a bunch of cool T shirts that you couldn't find elsewhere. Also, the pawn shops there usually had really good second hand CDs that were popular with the college kids.......

I recommend this one for a belt.? It’ll save you from having to trade up in the near future. Made in the U.S.A too!

For most belts, add two inches to your pants size. If you're a 36" trouser, order a 38" belt. My job requires "business casual" dress and I tend to stick to brands I know... Ralph Lauren, Brooks Brothers, Charles Tyrwhitt, etc. I can order these things online and know they'll fit. Same with shoes, Allen Edmonds you buy online will fit just like Allen Edmonds you buy in store and you can get some great deals that way. I generally dislike malls and don't have time for more than the occasional clothing run anyway so being able to order online makes my life a lot easier.

I was looking at wrangler site for jeans ( I didn't know they made so many styles). so I ordered lee jeans. that cleared up all the confusion.

Clothes shopping is one of those things that’s best done in an actual store than online. It becomes less of guessing game when you’ve got the real McCoy in front of you.

I've had no issue with ordering clothes online if I stick with brands I'm familiar with. I wear bibbed overalls on occasion and about the only place you can get good ones is online direct from the manufacturer. Same with shoes. I frequently order my Vans shoes online as the stores only carry certain colors & styles, not to mention they are cheaper ordering from Vans directly. The shoe boxes make great parts storage boxes with the flip top lid!

Roy's choice of an Amish one might be good.

Similarly I bought a personal carry belt off eBay about 10 years ago. It still looks great. They are made from thicker leather than typical belts. It was around $35 then. Well worth it. I was buying a new belt every year when I'd get them at walmart.

I got the one with the screws to hold the buckle on as I have a few belt buckles I can change around.
