kelson Posted April 12, 2022 Posted April 12, 2022 Hello everyone, next up this old rebuilder i've had for over a decade, the inspiration for this build comes from a old 1991 issue of Musclecar Review. 1
Vintage AMT Posted April 12, 2022 Posted April 12, 2022 My favorite year for Camaro's, I'll tag along too. 2
kelson Posted April 12, 2022 Author Posted April 12, 2022 Just a small update for today, body in primer, unfortunately the side marker lights were already sanded off but i can make copies.i sanded off the door handles and keyholes,i will use photoetch and a extra pair of 69'nova door handles to replace,1st time using MR.Hobby primer and i'm really impressed, hopefully color coats tomorrow.? 1
bisc63 Posted April 13, 2022 Posted April 13, 2022 Fun project, but I'm digging the box art car! Do you still have those parts?
mustang1989 Posted April 13, 2022 Posted April 13, 2022 Lookin' good with that startup on this build. Looking forward to more.

Phildaupho Posted April 13, 2022 Posted April 13, 2022 Great project. The body in the MPC looks very nice. I was not aware of this kit. 1
bisc63 Posted April 13, 2022 Posted April 13, 2022 (edited) Is this the '68 tooling now sold as the AMT '68, or did both companies do '68 Camaros? I don't recall ever seeing this version, either. This has become one of my favorite pieces of box art! This is the sort of thing that would have made me as a kid WANT this kit! This has that "coooool" factor in large doses, and does so simply. Excellent rendering; the artist is to be commended. Edited April 13, 2022 by bisc63 added info 1

Expand I don't believe it is,i think AMT's 68 came out in the 80's and they don't appear to share any parts. 1
kelson Posted April 14, 2022 Author Posted April 14, 2022 Small update for today, color coats applied.? 5
Oldcarfan27 Posted April 14, 2022 Posted April 14, 2022 Looks good. I've definitely seen Camaros in that color! Decided on interior color yet? 2
slusher Posted April 14, 2022 Posted April 14, 2022 (edited) Great color! A friend of mine had one this color in high school.. Edited April 14, 2022 by slusher 2
bytownshaker Posted April 14, 2022 Posted April 14, 2022 I have this kit as well, I remember building it when I was a kid it had a straight axle IIRC. 2

Expand Good choice. I LOVE doing black interiors. Your choice in paint color for the exterior is a good one and the results with it are really good. 2
kelson Posted April 21, 2022 Author Posted April 21, 2022 Okay,so clearcoats were applied, but unfortunately i color sanded to much and left streaks in the paint and when i clearcoated they really show?.I used a old Fred Cady decal sheet and don't have another,So i'll try Keith Marks again and see if i get a reply back. 3
Modlbldr Posted April 21, 2022 Posted April 21, 2022 That is looking great and I love that color and stripe. It's a shame about the streaks. Keep after it! Later- 1
slusher Posted April 21, 2022 Posted April 21, 2022 I feel for you nobody like to step and repaint. I can’t see them. I always liked my buddy’s Camaro in that color.. 1
Oldcarfan27 Posted April 21, 2022 Posted April 21, 2022 Never color sand metallics before clear coating, the metal flakes invariably scratch and the clear just locks it in place. 1
bisc63 Posted April 21, 2022 Posted April 21, 2022 Really loving this build. Very cool subdued color, this model is going to look very good with a black interior. It dawned on me the other day just how rare this kit is and why I've never seen one; it can't be re-released! MPC destroyed the tooling for their '68 turning it (poorly) into a '69. They should have left well enough alone! 1
bytownshaker Posted April 22, 2022 Posted April 22, 2022 Rusty I believe MPC ruined the body making the Camaro Super Stocker . Maybe some one knows for sure.
bisc63 Posted April 23, 2022 Posted April 23, 2022 Interesting. I've heard many comment on this very forum about how the MPC 68 tool was modified to make their '69, and they did so by adding the swooping lines from the tops of the wheel openings, but they failed to change the shape/height of the openings, thus giving their '69s odd proportions viewed from the side. I'm sure there were other gaffs as well. The question now is which of these travesties came first? Super-stocker or "69"?! Either way, we lost a cool '68. Maybe the Camaro kit gurus will chime in...calling Mr. Snake, Mr. Mark...
