I've been kinda reading around online about this. The theory that we are living in an elaborate simulation, like a computer program. Here's the wiki about it....

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simulation_hypothesis

One thing that could be proof of this, is that there is a 'speed limit' in space (the speed of light). The program needs time to 'load', thus the speed limit...... Also, it's said that anything we aren't looking at and can see directly isn't really there at all, which would save on memory.

What do you guys think of this?

I think quantum entanglement puts that theory to rest. Linking particles and having the movement of one affect another seems like it would eat a ton of memory in a simulation.

Assuming, of course, that quantum entanglement is a "real" phenomenon, and not just the appearance of something "real" happening.

Consider the number of particles involved in displaying a moving picture on a 2-dimensional screen, compared to the number of particles involved in the "real" 3-dimensional environment the 2D display represents.

Not a very precise or particularly apt analogy, but you probably get my drift.

That is true. I mean, how many subatomic particles are we actually trying to measure at any one time. Faking something like that wouldn't take much.

Then there's another way to look at it. A sufficiently powerful "simulation" machine could well take an infinite amount of "memory" and computing power.

Think of the reflection of a mirror in a mirror as the "simulation", and reflections that go on to infinity...

Again not a very good analogy, but...hmmmmm.

Yeah, I honestly try not to think about stuff like this. I have enough real life problems without causing myself undue existential dread.

Depending on whose version of the "truth" you subscribe to, everything that defines 21st century civilization is subject to the constant fear-mongering "existential threat" bleating.

But I always tend to consider the source when I see hysterical headless chickens running in circles, waving "the sky is falling" flags.

Still, perception is everything. On a quantum level, there is no reality that can be easily grasped by our tiny little minds anyway, so take the sage's advice: "Don't Worry; Be Happy".

"Don't Panic" is also good advice.    Axe GIFs | Tenor

And always know where your towel is. Finally, remember that the answer to everything is 42. Or not.   ;)

I believe that's how whoever created this is seeing us, as 2D.

I sometimes have a hard time believing that an entity capable of creating this would have intentionally created so much stupid, but maybe that's just part of the Cosmic Joke.   ;)

Regardless of who is creating our reality there are people on earth trying to manipulate what we each perceive to be reality.

In all my years of inhaling polyester filler dust, paint fumes, and the spring-like pure air of Sarnia's Chemical Valley, there are two universal truths that I've arrived at: No one will ever solve the mystery of how they get the soft-flowing caramel inside the Caramilk Bar, and the only Absolute is that nothing is Absolute.

So, let's have a Fresca.

Which is what makes the lottery possible. I've always maintained that if people could actually, mentally comprehend the odds of winning a national lottery, it would cease to exist.

The question is "why?"  Why would someone "out there" create such an elaborate simulation?  What would be the purpose? Is Earth really spherical or flat? Is universe really infinite? ;)

The problem with advancing knowledge and science is that humans now come up with such strange thoughts.  Wouldn't' it be better to live in dark ages where our minds wouldn't ponder such unusual theories? :)

Oh they pondered them, they just didn't have the means to make them reality.

Now we've been to space, took pictures of the earth and there are people who still believe it's flat!

I doubt anybody even understood what a "simulation" is back in the middle ages.

As for Flat Earthers, that just goes to show us hoe messed up Homo Sapiens species is.

The Universe isn't infinite....... and Ours isn't the only one. It is, however, expanding outwards from the center faster than light speed. :D

And this info came from a very reliable source, and it has been verified.  :D
