Either #12 or #14 depending which decals I have already. Vmach - would you do #14 ? Some color photos on the Lyons site - a terrific looking Cobra - post a picture of the kit - with two parts painted or glued together - any two parts - and 14 is yours … Expand
absmiami Posted September 2, 2022 Author Posted September 2, 2022 Its apparent that ill have to post a running entry sheet to show who is down to build what - will do this weekend - cant do it at the moment - as I am asleep …
absmiami Posted September 2, 2022 Author Posted September 2, 2022 2287 had left and right fuel tank pipes - needed left for Daytona and right for Sebring and Lemans - interesting that the car - unrestored - has just the right side pipe and fuel cap - this car clearly went through a number of changes in ‘64 and ‘65 … I think that the spoiler on the car at present was added before the Lemans race - that would make sense-
Gramps46 Posted September 2, 2022 Posted September 2, 2022 Andy, you might find this into useful in your build of CSX2287 even though it shows Daytona and the Riverside testing. Guide: Shelby Cobra Daytona / 64 — Supercar Nostalgia

Certainly the 1/25 Aurora/Monogram has a lot more detail than the old Monogram but the side shot has me concerned about the shape of the Aurora rear deck line that I had not noticed before. In the end I am going with the Aurora/Monogram.
vamach1 Posted September 2, 2022 Posted September 2, 2022 After reviewing my stash there is no doubt I could build #14. As a side note I have two sets of the Scale Coach works decals sheets if anyone needs a particular number etc.
absmiami Posted September 2, 2022 Author Posted September 2, 2022 does the old Monogram kit body - the one that is 25th scale and unmarked in your photos - have a little too much curve on the silhouette of the tail ...
absmiami Posted September 2, 2022 Author Posted September 2, 2022 Rex - the decal sheet was done by the late Michael Quarterman - that's some good stuff ... the printed engine - is that a 427 or a 289 - ? I think you'll want to use Harold's engine castings .

Expand Porsche 904 - the Aurora/Monogram body does appear to have too much droop on the tail. Now you have me looking at the LS body. Hmmm...wait the LS is too wide, typical slot car origins.

absmiami Posted September 2, 2022 Author Posted September 2, 2022 Yes but the intakes were added after 1964 - pretty sure … tail looks box stock in 64 race photos -
absmiami Posted September 2, 2022 Author Posted September 2, 2022 friday build rules: build them as they raced - not as they are today - even the unrestored cars that grace Rev’s and the Simeone went thru dozens of changes in their competition life - so in order for me to do a proper build of 2287 I’ve got to make a dozen changes to the kit body work -which is correct for the ‘65 car- for the ‘64 Sebring car - you can - do the build 1 in qualifying trim - 2 or as on the starting grid 3 with headlights covered - 4 or with covers removed at dusk - 5. OR as the car finished - 6. OR as the car met its demise - so for example - the 33 Austin Healey finished its race on its roof - go for it … 1
absmiami Posted September 2, 2022 Author Posted September 2, 2022 Most of the ‘64 entries used Goodyears - other than Harold’s kit tires - which are right for the Cobras - what’s a good source of Goodyears for the smaller capacity cars ?? 3D printed maybe ?
absmiami Posted September 3, 2022 Author Posted September 3, 2022 Brief Saturday thread rules revu for those who stumble upon the thread but don’t want to read the whole darned thing - choose a build subject that hasn’t yet been picked from the link at the top of the thread - so we want to avoid builds of the exact same entry - not a big problem for Cobra fans - given the number of race entries -
absmiami Posted September 3, 2022 Author Posted September 3, 2022 Incidentally - the drill is the Foredom angle peice - which is now as hard to find as some of the old kits that we lust after …. Its a must for my Delage build …
Pierre Rivard Posted September 3, 2022 Posted September 3, 2022 Andy, nice work on the Daytona so far. I've never worked a resin body so this is good learning.
Pierre Rivard Posted September 3, 2022 Posted September 3, 2022 I have received my kit so I am set to do Cobra Roadster #1 as committed. I also have HRM wheels and tires and a driver figurine I'll try to fit in just for fun. I might have to add a bit of chin in hommage to the great Mr. Miles Body mods should be fun with the significant fender flares and swiss cheese style nose. If anybody has specific info on the configuration of the 427 engine and IP layout please share. 1
Gramps46 Posted September 3, 2022 Posted September 3, 2022 Here is a good profile shot. (both Miles and engine) 1
