I looked for an existing thread for this particular subject but didn't find one; but I'm always really inspired when I see a nice well-done scratch-built frame, be it for a hot rod, race car, oval car, minitruck or whatever.

There's a bunch of builders on here putting together really nice frames from little more than styrene rod and bar - I'd love to see more of those, and hear about your favorite materials and techniques!  Inspire me!

I guess you get the idea, basic hot rod frames, nothing too exotic. Lots of biuldup pix here: https://public.fotki.com/jferren/

All of those are great. Love the suicide front end, the "T" chassis and the one with the quarter elliptical front end. Have done some research and seen elliptical rear ends (rarely) on 32's but never a front end like that. Cool.

Here are a few of mine. The first five are a nostalgia fuel dragster chassis, built from brass rod and tube. The next three are for a replica of The Surfers dragster. Obviously, it's brass. Next is a chassis for a speedster I was messing around with. I wanted to try my hand at making "c"-channel frame rails.

YES!  This is exactly the kind of thing I was hoping we’d get to see in this thread - so much beautiful craftsmanship!

Is it weird that lately I find a well built frame even more interesting than the more glamorous components that attach to it?

Thanks to all who posted pics so far!

Have a few pics of some scratch-built short track race cars. First is an asphalt modified. Started with the main frame rails from an MPC kit, scratched the rest from evergreen rod.

This is a replica of the first car I helped build when I was a teenager. Late 1970's center-steer modified that ran on dirt tracks in Upstate New York. I have a copy of the blue prints for this frame that I found buried in my parents basement. Made a jig to try and get the dimensions dialed in and make accurate sides that I could then stand up and tie together with appropriate cross members. Working on finishing up the roll cage bars on this one, then start hanging the suspension mounts. We ran a 'Cuda body, but that will need a lot of massaging before it's ready to mount to this frame. The plan is to build replicas of the six cars I helped build and worked on during the mid-70's to late 1980's.

Definitely some kool stuph going on here. I tried working in brass once, abject failure, burned through the brass! I guess I'll stick to plastic.... -RRR
