Got the kit opened today, unfortunately the frame and fenders are molded as a unit. So now i have to decide whether to leave them ( the California rules seem laxed on this) or try to cut them off.

Unlike the East Coast, the California Drags have no rules regarding fenders. A couple pics from online when it was at Santa Barbara and a video from 2022.9.jpg.c66631747486214c69e8cee2ee175691.jpgtrog).jpeg.0fc20ec2cd3efcd10ed5b4b55c36eb43.jpeg

I've gotten most of everything needed for this build.

Revell 29 roadster on the Revell 31 Woody frame, most of the 31 suspension except for the tubular axle and solid radius rods from the Atlantis repop of the C1132 parts pack. Louvered trunk from the 32 5-window kit. Artillery wheels and tires from Forward Resin. The 4 banger from the 31 Woody kit. Still need to order the Hallock windshield and headers from RMoM. Deciding between the stock grill or a track grill.

I’ve completed the chassis, including the exhaust system, suspension and steering.  In keeping with the vintage A-V8 theme I’ve used lever shocks (often mistakenly called friction shocks – they’re actually hydraulic) courtesy of Replicas and Miniatures Co. of Maryland. Most of the parts used for the steering were adapted from the AMT ’29 Foord roadster kit. The exhaust system is fabricated from butyl coated wire and mufflers from the Revell ’40 Ford kits.

The wheels have been glued into place. At this point the stance is locked in. The pictures below constitute a final stance check. With a fairly aggressive Z at the rear and a 4” drop on the front axle the car is a kind of low highboy. I’ve always liked that look. The smaller body of the Model A when compared to the ’32 ford, combined the depth and shape of the Deuce rails and the low stance create an aggressive race car look that’s hard to beat.

I’m at the point of final assembly with only minor details left like door handles and taillights. I should have this done in the next several days.

Thanx for lookin’,

Love the look of this, those wheels are great.

Decided to run the 4 banger. In the spirit of how it was done back in the day, ill try to make as many of my own performance parts and parts box parts only

Wow, just found this thread and I’m amazed at the variety of builds in here. Wish I’d known about this earlier I could have plunked my Hinman roadster build down here.

It's been great to  follow your build, I don't see why you can't bring it along...

You finished it, cool, I've been following this build.

It's been great to follow.

Not quite finished yet, still some touch up rust to add. Seems like every piece I add I have to spend at least an hour to weather it to match the rest of the car lol

My idea is to put thin round plasticard in all the holes around the sheet metal on the roof as spot welds, we'll see how it goes. Next step is small dents.... a coupe with a top chop this questionable can't be straight in the sheet metal.
It bears pointing out, it's not going to be a rat rod but a little dented I'll try to get it.

Called an audible and switched up the build from my original pick of a '29 RPU to a '27 T. Dragged the body out of the weeds a slapped some rattle can numbers on over the weekend. Rebuilding the 4 banger and knocking the beach rear tires off the rims and mounting up some slicks.

I see that you took care of the issue in true hot rodder fashion and just removed the fenders. It's looking great.

Just an FYI for you and anyone else, the bodies in this kit drop on the AMT 29 Ford roadster fender unit. The helpful thing here is that that kit has a separate frame rather than being molded to the fender unit like this kit. Thanks  @Dave Darby for sharing that tip awhile back. Haven't used it myself yet, but thought others in this thread might like to know it too.

Yeah the hobby knife has been busy with this one lol. Out of all my pre-war cars, this is the only one were the frame and fenders were molded together.  Thats a good tip ?
