1972 Mach1 that I have owned since 1981.  The model is an Otaki 1/24 motorized kit with opening doors but the hood does not open.

I built the model before I added the rear spoiler.  The yacht is not mine. 😆

I recently scanned a lot of color prints from the 80s-90s..  Here’s a screen shot of them in my photos folder.

Here are my four replicas of cars that I have owned and driven . . .

First up is the 1968 Pontiac Parisienne 4-door RHD, then the 1994 Mitsubishi Pajero SWB, then the 1988 Suzuki SJ413 Samurai, and last but not least is the 1960 Ford Anglia 105E . . . All great cars in their own right  !

First cars, even beaters, always stay with you. This build really does look like a Midwest car that has been used hard and sat outside all night.

Love it Harry....hard to tell the difference between the real and the model.  In my past I owned a '72 and '73.   Wish I still had the '72 Convertable 454-4 speed.

The 53 Studebaker was my first.  Worked part time at the local A&P after school saving every nickel and bought this on my 16th birthday in 1957.  After about 5 months sold it because it was a 6 cylinder and bought the 53 Ford HT with V-8 power.  Added dual glass pack mufflers, lowered it, dechromed the hood and trunk and put bubble skirts on it (had a blast with this one).  Next was the 57 Ford convertible V-8 powered with Paxton blower, 3 on the tree, kept it pretty much stock (did a lot of drag racing from red lights along Telegraph and Woodward).  The 1960 Pontiac Catalina HT was my last car before joining the Army in Sept. 61 (four on floor with bucket seats).  Sold it a couple of weeks before for basic training.  The 61 Pontiac Catalina was my first after getting out of the Army in August 64.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         The 51 Chevrolet was my parent's first brand new car (they had several 40's Fords before this car).  The 53 Buick HT was the car I learned to drive on.  Started with moving it in and out of the driveway, then around the neighboring streets, then driving Mom on errands.  The 57 Buick HT was their next car (bought new) and I drove it for a couple of months during summer of 58 when it was available while my 53 Ford was in the bump shop for repairs after getting rear-ended.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  Took me about 10 years to find all these models and get them built, still surprised that I was able to get it done.

'55 Chevy (All original survivor). Model shows whitewalls and full caps, which I put on the 1:1 later, replacing the black walls and poverty caps, but I have no 1:1 images of that update. Sold the car in 1998 after 5 years of ownership, but wish I had it back.

You had a 454!!  That must have been fun to drive. Wish I could have afforded one when I was shopping for mine.

Oh yeah. Bought it some time in the mid 80's for $12500. It also had a hotter cam. Had the factory size tires. Was actually scary squirrly when you got into. Fun tho😁. Sold it for $14500 and several years later saw it at the Knoxville Vette Show for sale for $24500

😪  At least you got to spend some quality time with it. 👍

I am really enjoying this thread. Lots interesting models and stories. This is model of my '65 Falcon the way it was when I bought it based on a Modelhaus resin body over an AMT '67 Mustang chassis. The 1/1 eventually got Torque-Thrusts on black walls. Before I seriously got back into the hobby I built brush painted models of three VW's I owned. I will have to search around for those.

I am on a roll now. This is the 87 S10 long-box we bought in in 2009 as a garden truck and we kept it for 8 years. My wife loved driving this truck and called Blue Buck. I got a miniature buck, painted it blue and mounted it on the dash. One Christmas I built a model of it from a Cyclone kit. Just last week she asked me where the model was. It took awhile but I found it. It is now on the kitchen window sill and she is using the pickup-bed to hold small items.

OK continuing on, here are 4 Volkswagen I built before seriously getting back in the hobby. The '78 Convertible was bought new as the last made in Germany Convertible. I wanted a black one but they had already sold out. I sold it for a profit 3 years later to buy the 1980 Series 1 GTI which was a cosmetic version offered in Canada but did not have to performance up grades of the European version. The model was brush painted. I sold the '80 in '85 to buy a '73 Westfalia [I will build a model of it from the new Revell kit] which I only kept for less than 2 years and replaced it with a new '87 GTI 8V. The model of that car was poorly painted with spray can enamel. I did convert the grill to look like a North American version. I kept the '87 until '95 when I got the first of the VR^ GTI's. It took some years for a VR^ kit to be available so I built a 4-door Series III Golf which again was poorly painted with spray can enamel. The VR6 was replaced in 2008 with a Jetta TDI Station-wagon. I did not build a model of that car but do have a plastic miniature [1/73?] of it albeit in a different color.

This Mercedes 450SL is a 1/43 diecast of a '73 I bought in 2007. It was one of the worst purchases I ever made. I really was not my sort of car, it was expensive to run and repair and I lost a lot of money when I finally sold it. My wife did make an excellent set of red and white plaid seat covers which gave it some panache. I was given a 1/12 450SLC kit with the idea I might cut the roof off it and shorten the wheelbase to make an SL but that may never happen.1074995570_2023-01-0512_40_52.thumb.jpg.5eca4152b6655c099600dfea55d436ae.jpg

I do have kits in my stash to some day build a model of my '65 Sunroof VW hippie van and my currently owned 2008 Mazda MX5.

I like the '55.  Interesting story here.  My Dad bought a similar car (all black) literally from a little old lady in New Orleans. Had the 265 with 3 on the tree. Soon  after Hurricane Betsy hit us. The car floated a block away from our house.  Great job on the build.

Thanks, Mike. Mine had the venerable inline six with manual 3-speed (column shift). Mine was a traditional survivor, however, your dad's being a hurricane survivor, well, I tip my hat.

Well, it did survive.  My Dad sold it to a  good friend of mine friend of mine and I helped him get it back in running condition. He had big plans for it but unfortunately passed away not too long afterwards.

Thanks again Mike
