Fat Brian Posted December 28, 2022 Posted December 28, 2022 In the early 2000s these billboards for a questionable bottled water showed up all over my area. It turned out to be an ad ran by a billboard marketing firm. 1

MrMiles Posted December 28, 2022 Posted December 28, 2022 i dont have a picture of it, but there was a sandwich place that had one that said you won't lose weight with our subs and showed a huge sub, was a play on the subway diet
Ace-Garageguy Posted December 28, 2022 Posted December 28, 2022 Ever get annoyed that billboards block the scenery?
1972coronet Posted December 28, 2022 Posted December 28, 2022 I can still see the billboard for the 1974 film Earthquake! in my head, almost 50 years ago. I was 4 years old, the 1971 Sylmar Earthquake still in me mind (I was 10 months old when that one hit). I believed it to be a warning of another earthquake, and was aghast that it was being advertised! Haha. I was standing in the back of my parents' 1969 Dart, straddling the driveshaft tunnel, staring out the window. I saw that billboard, and my verbal reaction was "s_it !" My folks weren't happy about my first swear word -- I remember saying, "I hear dad say that word all of the time." So, yeah, the billboard ad for Earthquake! is my favourite.
OldNYJim Posted December 30, 2022 Posted December 30, 2022 This one is right by our house: * Insert Indiana joke here *
Little Timmy Posted December 30, 2022 Posted December 30, 2022 I find it interesting that the " Hell is real" billboard is positioned so that wrong way drivers can read it . 2
espo Posted December 30, 2022 Posted December 30, 2022 What ever happened to the good old Berma Shave road signs?
Lunajammer Posted January 3, 2023 Posted January 3, 2023 Well, now you're speaking my language. This is what I do for a living. I didn't post here until I got back to the office after the holidays. There are darn few clients who want a simple, catchy billboard. They ALL say they do, but by the end of the process, they really want their logo, products they carry, multiple photos, co-op requirements, web site, phone number, "like us on Facebook," and all the other BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH that ruins billboards, muddies impact and forces motorists to ignore them because they don't want to work that hard to read an ad. Despite all that, here are a few I concepted and laid out that worked pretty well. Some are still too busy. This one was dictated fairly specifically by the client, I just had to find a way to make it work. This was a very rare case where the client wanted all impact and minimal message. Left it up to me to come up with ideas and graphics. This is another client who leaves it up to me to do his billboard branding and seems happy with whatever I come up with. This was a jewelry store that asks me to do retro designs, but doesn't like using photos so it never got printed but I still think it's a winner.
TonyK Posted January 4, 2023 Posted January 4, 2023 I like those type of ads/billboards. A touch of humor but intelligent and it sells the product.
mchook Posted January 14, 2023 Posted January 14, 2023 Not a billboard but still a funny sign to me. 2

If the QR code on the billboard is large enough, any smart phone which reads those should be able to read it if iits camera is pointed towards the QR code. It's today's technology.

Lunajammer Posted January 14, 2023 Posted January 14, 2023 (edited) When our company was first requested to put a QR code on a printed billboard we weren't positive it would work, but we tested it and it worked. Then we were asked to put one on a digital billboard, which if you don't know, are very low resolution and doesn't define the code well unless it's big. Sometimes it works, sometimes no. Ultimately, we've found them to be impractical and we advise against it because most motorists aren't prepared (or motivated) to capture it anyway. Edited January 14, 2023 by Lunajammer
