In my short (7 years) "career" I have completed about 30 builds. I used to buy, build, buy,  build but lately it's evolved into a buy, buy, build, buy, buy, buy...

I now get it when I read from you guys about "THE STASH"

So here's my modest stash. I do plan to build maybe 12 of the 15 on the pile, starting with the one at the top TOMORROW!

How big is your stash and your split between "I will build it" and " why did I buy this" ?

Looks like a days buying at a model show and swap meet for some of us.  ?

I have not counted lately but probably around 400.  I’ll finish them all if I live to 150. ?

I guess I am fortunate that I primarily collect/build only four different cars (1/87 to 1/12)

Ford Mustang (any year),  Detomaso Pantera, Ford GT and GT40’s and Shelby Cobras.

The outliers are a Shelby Series I, Cougar II, a few Apollo space kits and the Creature from the black Lagoon.

I honestly couldn't say for sure now. I got rid of the majority of my 1/25 kits (kept a few that could pass as 1/24) recently to make space but since then I've pretty much filled the space through trades and purchases. My US boxed kits are 4 wide and stacked to the roof, and theres another 20 odd US boxes that didn't fit in that space. My japanese brand kits fill a set of workshop shelves again up to the roof and my vw stash has at least 2 of each but more of others. I think I have around 300 kits but then theres also lots of aftermarket and resin too. I can easily stack them and fill 2 walls from floor to ceiling in a 14 x 18 room so i might be under counting them. These pics are about 3 years old so theres much more now. Most of the 1/25 kits have been replaced by monogram kits

I have built 34 since getting back into the hobby about 5 or 6 years ago. I have about 100 waiting in the wings.  Quite a few in the wings have been purchased at flea markets in various states, some of which I bought strictly for parts.?

I would take a pic, but I'm not at the hobby room right now.  If i had to guess i have about 100 in the year & half I've been in the hobby.  After i do my last big purchase from plazajapan once i get taxes - I'm going to be officially done buying kits, and just focus on better tools, and more paint.  My hobby room is running out of space because of Lego and kits lol.  I'm getting to the point where I rather buy paint, primer, tools, and other things instead of a kit that i like that might never get built. I'm still in the process of getting stuff to be able to actually display the models once built instead of just randomly sitting some where collecting dust.

I'd guess around 400 or so. Half Nascar or street car kits that can be made into one.

Pierre, the '62 Bel-Air is one of my favorite kits of all time. Only main gripe is the wheel backs lack of any detail. If you do something with it, please do a thread on it. Always enjoyed your builds.

Yup. Yup, yup...except for a few hundred bucks worth of aftermarket stuff to fill the empty spaces between the kit boxes.  :D

I've got several hundred. It's getting to be 50/50 plastic to resin /3D printed kits. I would have to buy a bigger house to expand further.

Excellent reason to get a bigger house.   :D

Mine is about 200. they range in scale from 1/8th to 1/24-25th. Oldest bought about 40 years and the newest about six months. Everything from big rigs to classics to drag. In the beginning process of getting ris of anything under 1/16th due to vision issues. After that I should be down to about 40.

Probably close to 175 kits/projects down in the shop. Enough that I most likely will never get them all built. However, as my bride often tells me..."it's fun just to look at the model boxes."  ???

"Joe, do you want to go into town and look for any new model kits at HL?"  "No, dear, I have plenty to work with as it is."

"Is it 40% Off week?"

"Yes, it is."

"Then we need to go see if there is anything new for you to look at."

"Yes, dear."   ???

Around 5K + -.

Disclaimer:  I worked and/or owned 2 different hobby shops. Current kits wholesale at the time was $3 so I bought all new kits. AND I worked for the model company's and often bartered work for kits.

Les, I think I want just about everything in your second pic! lolz

Anyway, I have probably 150 or so kits Possibly more. It's been a while since I did a proper inventory. I know what's there, just haven't done the math.

I stopped counting at 1000. I used to be just a street / strip kind of guy. Then with all the aftermarket decals for Nascar and late models I got into that. Then it was IMSA racing, then rally cars and DTM cars then it was Japanese sedans and tuners then......it was over 1000. I'd have more decals than cars so I'd have to get more cars. Then I'd have more cars than decals so on and on it would go. Not to worry though, I've been told that when you buy a kit it comes with the time on earth to build it. ?

A lot of times I've thought I was done, but then I'll see a build here that triggers an interest in something I hadn't really wanted previously. Off down the internet rabbit hole, I find something else really really cool, then come across a real car build (or something historic) that triggers yet another new interest, research, buy more, see something, rinse, repeat...endlessly.

For instance: a book on the McLaren sports racing cars I hadn't opened in the two years since I got it (finally read it over this Christmas) made me want to do a series of as many of the McLaren sports racers in 1/25 or 1/24 as I could find. So...

Earlier, a build here of the Lola Mk6 GT precursor to the GT40 got me going on doing both roadgoing and racing versions of the Lola, and more research turned up several versions of the GT40 I was previously unaware of, so I had to get more GT40 kits, and the Porsche 917 series I'd started led to the 910 and 908 and 906 (I already had a bunch of 904s)...etc.

But really, I'm just nuts.

That's the way I look at it.  Plenty to do well into the future, no time for this "dying" stuff.  B)

I’m about 10 years in since I started building again, I have just over 100 built models, and around 800 in the stash, and somehow manage to keep buying kits, but, in my defense (like I need to justify it to this crowd, haha), there is so much cool stuff coming back out, or completely new tooling coming out. Luckily, I restrict myself cars/trucks /big rigs, with the occasional air craft purchase , and a couple of farm tractors. Have a little bit of aftermarket parts, couple rig cabs and a few car bodies, wheels and tires, paint is also out of control, between rattle cans, small bottles and now pre thinned paint for air brushing………

Ive got about 125. Mostly Revell, some AMT and MPC. I slowed down buying models a bit but then got bit by the Japenese car market and its off to the races again. Now there seems to be a growing Tamiya, Hasagowa amd Aoshima collection.

And I dont want to talk about the number of kits that I might have to go and find, now that the resin and 3D thing has caught on.
