1972coronet Posted January 19, 2023 Posted January 19, 2023 The Croz hath passed on the the next realm... This song was recorded during the Notorious Byrd Brothers sessions (summer-autumn 1967), but didn't make the final cut. It was deemed "too controversial" by bandmates McGuinn and Hillman; it was shelved as a demo. Jefferson Airplane recorded their version of it (Crosby had given the song to them after the Byrds rejected it) on Crown of Creation. When the master tape demo was discovered in c.1989, Triad was 'blemished' on the vocals -- Crosby was called into the studio to re-sing one of the lines... 20 years later! The transition is seamless.
OldTrucker Posted January 19, 2023 Posted January 19, 2023 Hear a lot of Buffalo Springfield influence in the delivery and music. 1

TonyK Posted January 20, 2023 Posted January 20, 2023 A legend is gone but he'll live on with all the great music he has given us. 1
Claude Thibodeau Posted January 20, 2023 Posted January 20, 2023 Hi ! Very sad. I followed his work since the era of 8 track cassettes, and I bought all of his "resurgence" albums. His latest ( titled "For free") is a testament to his mastery. He was the living definition of "anti-format", and kept his great voice to the end. Despite being described as a "difficult" personnality, I prefer to focus on his musical contribution. Godspeed! CT 1
1972coronet Posted January 20, 2023 Author Posted January 20, 2023 One of his earliest songs; dates to 1962, when he was 21.
Phildaupho Posted January 20, 2023 Posted January 20, 2023 I was fortunate to go to his solo concert that last time he played Victoria in 2016. His songs, voice, guitar playing and stories were still just as amazing as when he was a young man. 1 1
webestang Posted January 20, 2023 Posted January 20, 2023 Saw C,S,N here in St. Louis back in the late 80's at the Fox theater. Fantastic show. RIP. 1

Phil Manzanera from Roxy Music also. Was 2006. The venue I saw them at was a neat small amphitheater that no longer exists. The Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City. Saw CSN on a couple of their reunion tours at the Dodge Theater in Phoenix. Sadly, musicians from that era are in their 70s-80s now… Saw Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and Bob Dylan last year..all 80 or older. The music is still great and they put on great performances. iamsuperdan Posted January 22, 2023 Posted January 22, 2023 I'm surprised he made it this far. What with the health issues and the drugs and booze and jail and financial issues and everything. People don't realize that he lived a harder life than a lot the guys known for their hard living.

Dave Ambrose Posted January 24, 2023 Posted January 24, 2023 My sister turned me on to this ever so many years ago. Loved the Byrds. Loved CSN, and CSNY. And all these years later, it still sounds great. 1
