Sidney Schwartz Posted February 12, 2023 Posted February 12, 2023 Anyone ever try this stuff for chrome? Is it thin enough? Does it look like chrome or aluminum? https://ksmetals.com/products/alfoil
Dpate Posted February 12, 2023 Posted February 12, 2023 Just looks like another generic chrome pin. You're better off getting one of the gundom chrome plate pins or molotow from hobby lobby. 2
NOBLNG Posted February 12, 2023 Posted February 12, 2023 (edited) I have no experience with it, but I think it would be too thick for most modelling purposes. The aluminum foil we have in the kitchen measures .001” thick. BMF is .0005” thick I believe. It depends what you want to do with it. Edited February 13, 2023 by NOBLNG 1
Sidney Schwartz Posted February 13, 2023 Author Posted February 13, 2023 I'd like to find a chrome foil as thin as BMF but without the adhesive already on it. Does anyone know of such a thing?
peteski Posted February 13, 2023 Posted February 13, 2023 I recall few years ago someone here showed how they use silver and gold leaf foils for simulating car trim. The stuff sign makers and custom painters use. As I recall, the metallic leaf material doesn't have any adhesive. Do a Google search of the forum for "silver leaf" or "gold leaf". and you will likely find that thread.

Straightliner59 Posted February 13, 2023 Posted February 13, 2023 I think it's a dead-soft sheet, like Maid-O-Metal tooling aluminum. It has a ton of uses for modeling, but, it's much too thick for foiling. I used the Maid-O-Metal to line the interior tub of this Vega. The trans tunnel and wheel tubs are made from the same stuff. 1
peteski Posted February 15, 2023 Posted February 15, 2023 Nice! Looks like metal because it is metal! 1

charlie8575 Posted February 15, 2023 Posted February 15, 2023 They have several thicknesses from 0.002-0.005", which is about BMF thickness from what was stated. Nice, big sheet, which is good. Microscale foil adhesive, applied strategically, should work. I may try this. Charlie Larkin

If you try it, let us know how it works out.?
