The weather outside is too damp and windy this weekend for me to got to next step on anything I've got started. So what could I possibly do?.. Yep... let's start another...

I built a version of this kit long ago. It met a unfortunate end of life, with a lot of my models, when the shelf they were on was knock off the wall... long story...

Anyway, I've always wanted to build a second one of these so here we are...

I haven't gotten to far into this one yet... just ball parking ideas so far.

May go this route... may go box art... who knows

Stay tuned....

You've sparked my interest. A buddy sent this very kit to me for Christmas. I was planning the same route as you. I'll be watching

Come along for the ride... Not sure which way I want to go at all. I'm googling for some inspiration.

I think I'm leaning towards the pink and black or red and black... not sure yet... I mocked it up yesterday with the kit wheel and tires. Got to figure a good way to drop it. Not in the grass... just enough to make it look mean

Still don't know what direction I really want to go with this... but I've got it covered in flat black right now.

I'm hoping this will speak to me now...

Another thought on a color combination. Find the factory color chart that shows the different colors that were offered. They had some interesting two-tone color combinations and the body trim on the Bel Airs offered a great way to show them.

I’ve often thought it would be cool to get some of those factory two-tone combos and get them ‘wrong’ - match the wrong factory color with a different wrong factory color to make a new unique pairing.  I’m not familiar with the particular options on this year of Chevy, but I always liked the idea of finding a couple of nice shades that SHOULDN'T go together, but look good combined

Flat black always seems like a great choice to end the journey at... add a candy red roof and voila.

Chevrolet offered a few color combinations that at first may look like they shouldn't go together until you look at them for a bit. GM as a whole was pretty progressive with their color palate at the time. On the Bel Air models White or Beige was most often the secondary color and that would include the roof, trunk lid area, and the chrome outlined area along the center of the front fenders. That said, I have seen the color locations reversed on a few models. Was this an option or something an owner did at a later date? Maybe a color you have seen on a later model car could be a primary color?  Make it whatever looks good to you.

How about flat black/gloss black 2-tone with satin chrome trim. Evil.

I think I saw one done that way a few years back... black on black on black on black...

Jeremy, you have a good start!  Here's a color chart from the Consumer Guide to tri-five Chevys.  The adobe beige and Sierra Gold is my favorite. I did it with Krylon Satin Almond and and MCW Classic Copper. I have also substituted  Tamiya Metallic Orange for Sierra Gold when I built a 57. But Krylon has discontinued the Satin Almond.  Here are a couple of other photos. Hope the color chart helps!00-Y-8Yc6DVh--ZPkGITLwl4ftFjzPT9fAvEBf1aalWdFxWQaIWnBtk3QSejnChu8jnVZV51t4MhjbEwRNyGscOgg?cn=THISLIFE&res=large&ts=1685735030

All three on the left, but the lower two on the left really stand out especially the bottom red and black one!

Thanks John! The color chart with come in very handy, whether it's this build or another. And those two builds are sweet. That Tamiya really pulls off that look pretty convincingly.

So, I just entered this in a group build on another forum. Let's see if that gets those creative juices flowing.

After looking and looking... I think I've come up with the colors.

This is Champagne Gold covered in Clear red and Metallic Black

Now I just have to figure out what color trim and bumpers to go with...

Chrome? Silver? Black?

What say ye?

I had a Sedan that was a factory two tone of white over Dusk Rose that was a purplish maroon color I've only seen one redone in that combination and of course I HAD to change the color and after I decided on the color I had to wait six months for the manufacturer to release mix formulas to the jobbers so I could get it mixed, that color was '69 Plymouth (only!) mid year release code F-6 Brite Green Poly. Only problem was that bright color along with fenderwell exist headers with 18" glass packs that we removed the insides from and the fact that lifting off the power above 3000 rpm would result in a large ball of unburned fuel coming out from under the car and it had enough of a cam that the downtown cruising speed required either first or second gear (if you had an opening in traffic) so any time you had to slow down it caused a lot of excitement. Those little things made the local police pull me over at least once a night and sometimes just pull into the parking lot right behind me if I was parked and most of the time it was the new recruits and they just wanted to look it over and see what was under the hood. I had a girlfriend that lived in a town about 45 miles to the north and made a weekly trip to see her for a few months and discovered that just cruising along at around 55-60 mph I got a whole five miles to the gallon. We were sure lucky that good 100+ octane gas was only 25-40¢ a gallon.

Just that the factory always put the lighter colors on the top surfaces with their two tone paint jobs, I have seen a couple of guys swap the colors and it made people ask about the "custom" colors only to find out it was just factory colors with the locations swapped.

Alright... I took the plunge.

I painted this and 5 other bodies yesterday. And while I'm not going to give the fully monty until after I work out the trim...

I will offer a tease...
