Deathgoblin Posted April 10, 2023 Posted April 10, 2023 This is a first for me. Never done a WIP before, but the engine came out so well I had to share. The engineering on this kit is astounding. I'll post more as I go, but here's what I've got so far. 7
Monty Posted April 11, 2023 Posted April 11, 2023 (edited) Looks like you're off to a great start on a build of one of my favorite cars. I've never built a Fujimi kit but I've heard they can be incredible, and incredibly fiddly, so it will be fun to watch as yours comes together. Question for the group: every pic I've seen of this engine seems to show it with two orange oil filters. My inner snob wonders if those are Fram units. ? Yes, I know that millions of cars have gotten satisfactory results with Fram filters; I've used them on most of my personal vehicles. Just curious. Edited April 11, 2023 by Monty

Very often they are indeed Frams, but they may also be Ferrari-specific. Fram filters were at one time very good. The apparent quality decline is a fairly recent thing. The bugger about the 365 Ferrari mounting them upside down is the almost inevitable dumping of oil all over everything when you change them, even when equipped with "anti-drainback" valves. Deathgoblin Posted April 11, 2023 Author Posted April 11, 2023 It doesn't seem to be overly bad to put together - so far. One big up side is that everything has a positive location where it's supposed to go and it fits very well. The worst part is the amount of very tiny parts, especially chrome bits. I'd still rather be working on this than the Heller kits I've touched so far.
Deathgoblin Posted April 12, 2023 Author Posted April 12, 2023 Updates!! The chassis went together without too much argument. Only thing I'll note is the belt system on the engine can interfere with installing the engine to the frame. I had to pop the belts off, install the engine, then put everything back together. 2
Deathgoblin Posted April 13, 2023 Author Posted April 13, 2023 One other tip, if I may. The instructions have very clear order of assembly at the side of each page and they aren't kidding. The exhaust headers have to be installed after the engine is attached on the frame. That's where I ran into issues with the belts. The engine wasn't completely in place, so I couldn't get the headers on, they were being blocked by the suspension.
Bainford Posted April 13, 2023 Posted April 13, 2023 Coming along nicely. I'm really keen to watch this build come together. I've been wanting to build the Fujimi EM kit of this car for years, but they are pricey these days. I do have a Fujimi Daytona I'll get to one day, but it's not the EM kit.
Deathgoblin Posted April 13, 2023 Author Posted April 13, 2023 Here's the dash. Pretty happy with it so far 2

Working on this one, now I want the Porsche 356B. Had one way back when, but it went with my old collection. Man, I was stupid.
mrm Posted April 14, 2023 Posted April 14, 2023 I have a couple of those kits. The Enthusiast series by Fujimi are just great in every regard. You seem to be doing great with it. It makes me want to start one of mine, but I already have enough projects going on.
Deathgoblin Posted April 25, 2023 Author Posted April 25, 2023 Completed engine compartment and interior. I'm not gonna do the seat belts. 2
89AKurt Posted April 26, 2023 Posted April 26, 2023 I built one last century, forgot how it went together, other than the headlights were a pain, and don't move easily. It was also when Testors cement was the only glue, so it melted the nose where the headlight shaft is. They are nice kits, but intimidating, must be why I have so many in the stash still. Coming along very well. I also wish we could buy just the tires, they are the best.
rrb124@sbcglobal.net Posted April 26, 2023 Posted April 26, 2023 Super detail work everywhere. One of my favorite Ferrari road cars. Fun to see this build.
Rich Chernosky Posted April 26, 2023 Posted April 26, 2023 Inspiratiion for me to finish the two I have. Your work is top notch.
Deathgoblin Posted April 27, 2023 Author Posted April 27, 2023 Getting there. Body is on and wheels. The headlights do move. It ain't perfect, but really happy so far. 2
Deathgoblin Posted April 28, 2023 Author Posted April 28, 2023 One of these things is not like the other. Tail lights are on, but one of the housings flinged off into the never. So I made a mold of one of the survivors and cast a new one. It's a little off, but it fit the body without having to be adjusted. 2
