Rattlecan Dan Posted October 12, 2023 Posted October 12, 2023 Looks beautiful so far. Gonna' be great.
Unatural Posted October 18, 2023 Posted October 18, 2023 Great build so far. I love how you have some "actual" u joints holding the driveshaft in place.
Bugatti Fan Posted October 19, 2023 Posted October 19, 2023 Very nice model in the making. I will be following this one!
IanH Posted January 3, 2024 Posted January 3, 2024 This is coming together nicely, the dash and gauges look wonderful.
Art Laski Posted January 3, 2024 Posted January 3, 2024 Awesome start, Paul! I like what you did with the gauges . 1

TarheelRick Posted January 5, 2024 Posted January 5, 2024 IMHO this car and the Lola GT are two of the most beautiful automobiles ever built. I am really enjoying watching this kit come together with your skillful touch. A strange thought came to my mind when looking at the suspension pictures: a car with this much sophistication and technology is using a buggy spring suspension. I guess what goes around comes around.
2whl Posted October 4, 2024 Author Posted October 4, 2024 It's been awhile since I did anything on this build. I got distracted by a bunch of previously started builds and finished them off. So now it's time to (hopefully) finish this off. Before I put color on the bodywork, I wanted to fit up the vacu-form pieces that go on it. Windshield, side windows and air deflectors are first up. 4
TECHMAN Posted October 4, 2024 Posted October 4, 2024 WOW!!!! This is really one VERY COOL project, PAUL!!!! A close friend back in Longview scored an Aussie built Shelby replica of the Daytona several years back, came roaring around the corner up in front of the house, had said he had a lead on one, and had finally secured it. It now lives in a "man cave" off of McCann Road. Will have to see if I can bootleg a picture or two of your build to Mark. Again, great job and good to hear from you. DJ
2whl Posted October 4, 2024 Author Posted October 4, 2024 (edited) Great to hear from you DJ. And thanks for the compliments on the build. Here are the belts for the build. The buckles are white metal and the other bits are p/e. I've also been chipping away at completing the doors. The window have a sliding panel in them. I used a steel straight edge and an industrial razor to cut out the pieces. Edited October 4, 2024 by 2whl 3
2whl Posted October 5, 2024 Author Posted October 5, 2024 Got some color on the bodywork. Tamiya TS-19 Metallic Blue 5
MarkJ Posted October 5, 2024 Posted October 5, 2024 Wow. Daytona Cobra. One of the most beautiful race cars ever made. I can already tell this one is going to be magnificent. I'm tuned in till the end. 1
Pierre Rivard Posted October 5, 2024 Posted October 5, 2024 Gorgeous work Paul. The air deflectors are so realistic they look full size. So nice to see this project back in action. 1

Most of you know that Tamiya TS-13 spray is very hot and has killed many decals in the past. But I was wondering if the LP clear was the same. So I took a spoon I had done a color test on and added a spare decal. I mixed up a bottle of LP clear and LP thinner. I sprayed on a medium first coat, followed almost immediately by two more heavier coats. I laid it on thick on purpose trying to get a decal disaster. I think the second picture speaks for itself. Just about done adding decals. 5
MarkJ Posted October 9, 2024 Posted October 9, 2024 Wow, that blue is so deep and luxurious. LP looks like a winner to me and no fear of a disaster.
2whl Posted October 11, 2024 Author Posted October 11, 2024 Thanks Mark. I went out of my comfort zone and decided to clear this build. I shot it with a 50:50 mix of Tamiya LP-9 clear and LP-10 thinner. 5
MarkJ Posted October 11, 2024 Posted October 11, 2024 Spectacular and have you done any polishing? Because if you haven't, I don't think you need to. You got it on so smooth there is really no need to.
2whl Posted October 12, 2024 Author Posted October 12, 2024 Thanks Mark. I haven't done any polishing. I just cleared it today and I have a slight sag/run to fix.
David G. Posted October 12, 2024 Posted October 12, 2024 It's great seeing this one back on the bench. That's some crazy assembly work on the windows! ? A beautiful shade of blue too. David G.
