Hmmmm. Hope we get all that same goodness in the stateside boxing.  RoG C7s had a definite edge on the decal sheet.

EDIT: izzit me, or do they have the convertible illustrated on their coupe boxing?

Yes, that is a red convertible w/ the top closed.  The coupe has a triangular wedge-shaped black trim piece on the b-pillar while the convertible has more of a rectangular piece.

From my 1/1 scale automotive design POV, the C8 Corvette is heavily over-sculpted on its exterior, far more so than just pure Aero considerations would dictate (I'm sure GM Design Staff would challenge me on that statement).

But if I didn't already have 150 projects on my build list, would sure be fun to redesign the kit exterior into a cleaner, more organic form!  Then again, maybe not....TB

Yes. That is a convertible on the box, but Revell is going to do the convertible too.

Decal sheet of the euro boxing

Are there any Belgian License plates on the Sheet? (never mind. 51-52+-53, Right?)

And, I really like the Floor mats!

So, we have "THE American sportscar", which I am 100% sure is a far more common site on US roads than in Europe and we have 8 different Euro plates and ... Hawaii?

That is the EU version of the kit, so it has a decal sheet for the EU market, the US box version of the kit will have a decal sheet for the US market,  which should include more than one state license plate decals.

Well, funny thing is, that in the past the US versions of some Ferraris, Audi R8 etc have not included any US tags at all. I am saying all this with no discontent, but just humor. Last time I was in Maui, they offered me a free upgrade for my rental car at the airport. I opted for the Camaro Convertible and then they gave me the V8 one. I was trilled that were are going to have some fast fun  with my wife. Until I realized that due to the nature of the roads and traffic you can barely do 50mph anywhere. So I find the choice of Hawaiian plates on this particular model as plain funny.

Yeah, you are right, some of the US versions in the past have not had US plates, I forgot about the Audi R8 that you mentioned,  so its possible the US box version might only contain the one US plate option, but I would be surprised if it did.

I can see why you think its funny?

Design is always a subjective thingy, some are timeless other look great at first but age badly even after a short while.

Then you have the ones which grow on you, but also those of which one thinks, what were they smoking!

In the end. sales will be the decisive factor.

To me Lamborghini has the best super car design, like the sharp lines.

What would be yours Tim?

Given the sales rate of the 1:1, it would appear Chevy was right. That said, it leaves me a bit cold, but that was probably on purpose to shed the "aloha-shirt-and-jorts" crowd that has co-opted the recent front engine C5-7 generations.

The kit will be a big success, I think, as long as it doesn't develop tolerance stack that would cause it to sit in the air like a Farmall tractor.

Any projections on US availablility?

Agreed 128%. I am utterly baffled at the eclectic design of the C8 so much that it's not even a Corvette anymore. Truly a lesser son, of greater sires.

Me personally, it's a poor man's Revuelto. A sloppy, insecure, unfocussed, chaotic, disrespectful, paranoid design by committee.

And part of me wants to get one anyway, just so I can restyle it my way.

Given that the Revuelto is a new car designed after the C8, would that make it a rich man's Corvette then?

Though I'm clearly not their target audience, I would have preferred fewer folds and creases as well.   Mind you, when they finally get around to restyling it, you know people are going to howl about how much they liked the "old" C8.

A friend is on his 4th C8 and I have been able to drive each. If I were to change anything in the interior it would be the console between the seats. It could be very much lowered and minimized. All of the buttons on it seem to be a little much. Thinking about form following function, there's no transmission under this transmission hump. Minimizing the existing design would yield a roomier cabin, save weight and cost. Over all though, I enjoyed the quality materials and the supportive seating. He has the 1000 plus ZR-1 on order and I look forward to driving that as well.

An interior refresh is coming for 2026 I’ve read.  I like the C8, thinking a C8 convertible could be a fun summer ride sooner or later.

Eh, not my favorite iteration of Corvette styling, not my least - certainly wouldn't break the deal if I were in the market.  Honestly, if we remove "chaotic" from Stef's description above, you have a flawless characterization of the C5 - it wasn't interesting enough even to include that term.

Seriously, what. is. UP. with ripping off almost the entire, cowl-forward clip of an FD RX-7 and then slapping a near-formless billboard on its oversized rear? It was the sad-sack-est, blandest, most derivative and uninspired Corvette body style ever. Committee-designed? Hell, that thing looked worse, designed by consumer clinic.

None of which is to say I'd kick one out of my driveway.  The C5 was a sea-change under the skin, and I like the looks well enough. Just don't love it like a '57-or-earlier C1, or the absolute pinnacle of Corvette styling, the C2 mid-years.

Say whatcha want about the 8, at least it's its own car.  Of course, the same could be said of the C3, the most excessive styling since Harley Earl splattered headlights and chrome all over the '58.

But whatever.  These kits are badly overdue. Boxcover models show noses properly hunkered down, just fyi...

An interior refresh is planned and is to include a revision to the console as you suggest....I believe I read this in Automotive News a couple of weeks ago in their annual GM Product Plans recap....TB

It is massively overdone - looks like a Transformer, not a Corvette.  But I read it’s the best selling Vette ever, so I guess the performance and price have made up for the appearance - and perhaps a lot of guys in their ‘60s (my age) like the look.

Thanks for the heads up.

I see at least a dozen C8s every day. And 99% of them are driven by women of respectable age. Not sayin' anythin', just sayin', ya know what Ima sayin'? Me personally, I'm not a fan. The Zo6 is better looking and the sound of its flat plane crank (which is only 20 years late to the party) almost makes up for its looks. Almost... They should have stuck to the front engine GT formula. It is still good enough even for Ferrari and Aston Martin, so I don't understand why try to be something you are not.

Ha ha, @niteowl7710 I missed that; good catch! I love the entire line of Lambos over the past 15 years or so, starting from about the Reventón. The C8 feels to me like it's copying what others are doing, rather than doing it's own thing, if that makes sense!

Right you are, @Richard Bartrop; by the time the C9 rolls around, I'll probably be one of the first to declare the C8 is infinitely superior!

Wow, I'm honoured, @Chuck Kourouklis, thank you! And yes, it's like the design team took their marching orders from focus groups of Homer Simpsons and wine aunts, heh. Agreed, the C8 is in a league all its own, and it will be interesting to see how it fits into the lineage, given a few more generations. Lastly, yes, these kits are very overdue. A lotta work went into 'em, HPI Guy's test shot looked great, and my little dude is very very excited to be getting one. Shhhh, Christmas is coming.

Yes yes yes, @Chris in Berwyn ha ha that's exactly it!

Lastly, as I write this, I'm staring more and more at this blue builtup, and it is starting to grow on me. I owe it to myself to give this kit a shot, and see what I can come up with!

Oh, I don't thing it's a bad design, and in certain colours it actually looks pretty good.  It owes a lot to what manufacturers like Lamborghini are doing, but GM stylists have been borrowing from Europe literally since Day 1.
