Biggu Posted April 7 Share Posted April 7 (edited) Hi guys... I just finished this one... wanted to do something a little different, and a heavy haul off road low bed tractor came to mind. This is my vision of what a smaller logging company may have to use to move, yarders, feller bunchers, highlines Cats, etc... I wanted to go old school with a few old school details like an air valve on the firewall for the wipers, an alcohol canister for the cold operation of the air brakes, old school small clearance lights, single air horn , and stayed with the wedge brakes...also notice no rear mud flaps installed, because any time I had the low bed hooked to the truck, mud flaps are not required and would get torn off.... I hated fixing mud flaps! .... I have a list of 35 things I changed or modified, but won't bore you guys with the details unless you would like the list of the changes and mods.... I am rather pleased as to the final result as I think it hit my vision. Living here in B.C., we have some of the largest specially built off road logging trucks in the world, this is just a fictional possible representation of what a small company may have in it's fleet..... Added inspection plates to transmission, and bolts for the plates Added bolts to air compressor and fuel pump on engine Added oil plug on engine Added oil drain plugs on both rear ends Filled empty space on rear springs… Added air and fuel lines to engine, Fuel line from pump to tanks Decals to oil and fuel filters and starter Detailed firewall, with air lines, also added windshield wiper air valve and plumbed , and added Air Brake Alcohol canister and plumbed Drilled all airbrake air chambers Plumbed air brake system and added air brake valves and added resin fittings Added air lines to hand brake valve in cab Decals added to dash for instruments with ‘glass’ on each Cut open driver’s door window Cab door outline deepened Lines added for luberfiners Scratch built outside mirror brackets with added back up lights Added metal and resin aftermarket front steer axle Added bolts to steering components and rear suspension components Added resin fittings for fuel pressure line and fuel crossover line Added fuel crossover line Added fuel vent fittings to fuel tanks Modified engine air filter from vertical to horizontal style Thinned down outside steps and added bolts Added resin outside door handles Dulled chrome on front grille and added aluminum tape to simulate the actual aluminum grille Added aftermarket 3D printed roller and 5th wheel slide Roller assembly modified by removing tail light/mud flap brackets and new tail light bracket and tail lights added Changed front steer rims to heavy haul 3d printed rims Changed rear drive rims to resin Heavy Duty Dayton drive rims Changed tires to heavy off road Roadx DD990 16 ply deep tread off road Added aftermarket resin headache rack detailed with airline holder bracket, shovel bracket and chain hangers, also added scratch made backup light brackets, and back up lights along with extra tail lights and added custom correct British Columbia ‘ T ’ License Plate Added trailer air lines and electrical cable with glad hands and electrical plug Added 45 gallon oil drum tied with chain and synch Weathered, to appear to have just returned from a dusty road heavy haul, no rear mud flaps mounted , as when dragging a low bed they are not required by DOT as they would be most likely torn off, also no side panels to dissipate heat from the engine into the cab on a hot dusty day……………. Weathering included…. Cab painted in European dark green, ( flat) then hand rubbed to give it a ‘sheen’, then cab was brushed with a white pigment to simulate paint fade, it was then detailed with a light rust pigment on the rear window seal to simulate light rust, also same done on door hinges and door handles… mud and dirt added to underside of front fenders and fuel tanks, dirt and dust added to rear drive area and frame Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I didn't start out trying to do a mega project, it just kind of fell into place, I would go to the bench and putter a little bit here and there, and one thing led to another.... I actually surprised myself at the end of this....and when I wrote out the mod list, I was surprised at how many little jobs were done... but I am pleased with the overall result... I'm glad you like the weathering, it was a fine line, and it was my first time at using a white pigment for filtering the paint to make it look sun faded, and it kind of worked....
