Speedpro Posted July 6, 2024 Posted July 6, 2024 Looking good @carnut, that custom piece for the taillight is definitely killer. You did good with the install! Nice project so far. 1
Speedpro Posted July 6, 2024 Posted July 6, 2024 There is some really nice work happening here. It's fun to see everyone's ideas come to life. For me, I've made some progress. I have pretty much got the body the way I like it right now, so it's on to the fenders. Thought about this for a while as there are a couple different ways to approach this. After the channeling of the body the rear fenders no longer fit at this point of course. The first thing I wanted to do is rework the quarter panel to allow the fender to have room to sit higher in the body but didn't want to mess with that and what comes with it. Instead, the approach I chose to take is to cut the rear fenders off the running boards. At this point I just started rotating the fender and cutting off a little at a time where it mounts to the running board until it fit the quarter panel. I'm pleased with the results. And the fender and quarter panel fit perfect and have just a small area to clean up at the cut line. The wheels and tires are for mockup purposes only. And then there is this to work through.................................... Till next time........................................ 4
Bullybeef Posted July 7, 2024 Posted July 7, 2024 (edited) Ok we have some work done! I have selected “channelled” as my style! I had a partially started frame and suspension mocked up from my first attempt at the new tool 32 roadster. So I may as well put it to use right. Next up is driveline choice; the “shudder” small block chebbie from the same kit or… this nice Hemi from the old 5 window kit with some tasteful upgrades compliments of Replica and Miniatures. Nice new valve covers and a four carb manifold? I’d like to use the beautiful stock firewall from drag city castings but with the channel I have to make some adjustments, I really don’t want to cut it. Recessed kit firewall may be used as a backup! still scrounging for some interior parts but may use the door cards from the Amt phantom Vicky. Edited July 7, 2024 by Bullybeef Pics 6

Steve H Posted July 7, 2024 Posted July 7, 2024 Lots of awesome talent on display here guys! Keep ‘em going. 3
mrm Posted July 7, 2024 Author Posted July 7, 2024 (edited) After a month in the forum's jail, I am happy to say I am impressed with the turnout of the builds so far. I have two (or maybe three long-roof Deuces going on at the same time. Lately I have been entertaining the idea of building models somewhat connected to the box art. Plus I always wanted to build an orange fenderless Deuce. So that is one. A resin casting of a chopped fourdoor from Drag City is also playing a role, while the body I chopped, sanded the roof smooth and added the ribs to is getting fenders and all modern goodies like independent suspension forth and aft and modern drivetrain. I did buy myself a 3D printer and I've been experimenting with things on it, which kinda took a lot of my free time away from actually building stuff. But I realized that and put the resin away, so I can get back to finishing the models I started. Again, some really cool builds going on on here. Keep them coming ! Edited July 7, 2024 by mrm 2

So, that beautiful stock firewall that Drag City casts is just a copy of the firewall that actually comes in the '32 Roadster kit that your frame came from. So if you have that engine and frame and the firewall painted the same color (from what I see in the pictures) chances are it is the kit's firewall. The reason I am saying this is because I had few of those firewalls from drag city and I thought that one already glued on a body and primed was theirs and I didn't want to ruin it just like you. And it turned out I had all the resin firewalls still in their package while the one on the body was the original kit part. Drag city cast those before Revell reissued the Roadster. 1

Well no actually this one is a resin firewall it was painted at the same time as my drag city casting four door body, but it was not used. The stock one from the new tool revell roadster kit was on a 5 window coupe but that has yet to resurface. 2

The firewall, the wheels/tires, the Duval windshield. The extra interior, the supercharged Chevy, the side exhaust... And let's not forget the headlight buckets molded already mounted to the chock towers which would would save anyone building a fenderless Deuce hours of inappropriate language. The reissued sedan gives us in a similar fashion the original roadster's wheels/tires with a nice hopped up flathead and that sexy Tudor body. I just hope Revell of Germany adds more interesting options if they reissue their other Deuces. Replacing the Dan Fink's woody body on the Speed Wagon with a chopped Vicky bod and finally adding a quick change rear with some cool new motor (which would basically constitute a whole new kit) would be absolutely amazing. 4

mrm Posted July 7, 2024 Author Posted July 7, 2024 Figuring out the interior of my modern Deuce. Black Box 3D files of interior sets were rescaled and slightly modified/cut to create the seats. The rear seat of the kit was cut out and the new pieces superglued in place. The front seats were just scaled down to match the rears and to fit better in the space. It is funny how on the pictures the sizes and the angles of the rear seat look somewhat weird, but they are the exact same as the kit's pieces. 5
Speedpro Posted July 7, 2024 Posted July 7, 2024 (edited) Quick update, I worked on the radiator shell and still have some more to do in that area. But at least I got it about where it needs to be. I think I found the tires that will be used. I am happy with the way the car will sit with them. The mockup tires just made the back sit up too high. I'll rework the suspension to keep this ride height as best I can. I did a little fender bobbing. Not sure if that was a good thing or not. But it is what it is! Till next time...................... I think the fenders look a lot better bobbed. It can be very tricky tho, as I have cut off too much in the past. Yours look just right and I thing they abslutely needed it considering the channel job. 3 minutes ago, Speedpro said: 1

LOL. Sure we can. And thank you. I printed them for the C3500 extended cab dually I'm working on. But the rear is too narrow for it. The files came with two different backs - tall and short. So I had to resize them in all directions to make them work. I cut out the kit's rear seat as two separate pieces - bottom and back. Then I measured them and resized the 3D parts to those specs. Then I resized the front seats to match the width of the inserts, hoping they would fit in the Deuce's narrow interior. They barely fit, but it will work. It will just limit the room to play with the door cards, which I'm going to custom make. I'm planning to make three different long roofs and I don't want them to all have the same interior. 3

I just always thought that Hemis look better with something beefier for induction on top of them. It's such a large engine that a single row of Strombergs kinda gets lost on top of it. The forum's own Maplelleaf Motorparts makes a killer six carb intake for that motor. 2
dino246gt Posted July 8, 2024 Posted July 8, 2024 (edited) Here's those 3D printed valve covers, semi-translucent. I foiled ONLY the tops, then airbrushed Alclad "aluminum" right over them. Then I used a hard Tamiya "Q-tip" and polished only the tops of the fins, got the look I was after. I'll add little photo-etch bold heads after they're installed. Edited July 8, 2024 by dino246gt 4

I have filled the cut seams with 3M glazing buddy and now it’s time to send this stuff off and reestablish lines and door lines. I’m definitely taking an early 60s show car look to this with the rear pan. Time for some primer and then some more sanding. That chop is wicked. Keep it rolling. 1
dino246gt Posted July 8, 2024 Posted July 8, 2024 That Orange Crate body has these bulges that I don't want, so I cut them off and started making replacement bits. I say I'm "un-crating" this thing, LOL. 7
dino246gt Posted July 8, 2024 Posted July 8, 2024 I'm using the exhaust from the '32 Ford Roadster (modified re-issue Rat Roaster) kit so I had to notch the body to match the notches in the frame. I'll use the front suspension from that same kit and I've already de-chromed it. Now I see that the older Revell chassis doesn't have any place to attach that suspension! I'll have to make some brackets to go under the frame rails. I made them from styrene the same width as the frame. Looks like everything will work out quite easily, all good.............so far! 5
NerdmanB Posted July 8, 2024 Posted July 8, 2024 Just a note to stitchdup. Checked with post office I can send you the body you need for $30. Since I’m the nicest guy I know LOL. I will pay the shipping you just need to build something cool and have fun . If you are interested let me know exactly what you need. Brian 1
