CaddyDaddy Posted June 18, 2024 Posted June 18, 2024 Eddie Hazel in Maggot Brain, the 1971 P-Funk classic. Still get chills when I hear it live in concert. 1

CaddyDaddy Posted June 21, 2024 Posted June 21, 2024 Johnny Thunders interpretation of Pipeline. Absolutely manic! 1 1
JollySipper Posted June 21, 2024 Posted June 21, 2024 Any of you guys remember Gary Hoey? He was a shredder that did mostly covers.... he was around in the '90s mostly. Here's him doing the old Focus song 'Hocus Pocus' 2

Bugatti Fan Posted June 24, 2024 Posted June 24, 2024 So many great guitarists to listen to from heavy metal to classical. Something to suit everyone's taste.
W-409 Posted June 24, 2024 Posted June 24, 2024 I listen only to Rock 'n' Roll / Rockabilly music, so mine are a bit different from the most here in this thread.... Maybe one of the best guitar riffs is Crazy Cavan & The Rhythm Rockers' Rollin' Through The Night. Lyndon Needs on guitar. The best solo.... Hmm, another tricky one. This one is definitely on top of my list, Gene Vincent And His Blue Caps - Race With The Devil. From 1956, Cliff Gallup on guitar. 1
Jim N Posted June 25, 2024 Posted June 25, 2024 I believe that Lindsey Buckingham is very underrated. Fleetwood Mac was built around their vocals and harmonies, but when they let Lindsey rip, he was really good. Go Your Own Way, The Chain and I'm So Afraid are good examples.

von Zipper Posted June 28, 2024 Posted June 28, 2024 I always liked the guitar in Rolling Stones/ Rocks Off but Star Star has better licks ...but I dare not share that here . 1

Brian Austin Posted June 30, 2024 Posted June 30, 2024 (edited) I've seen Jethro Tull in concert in the late 1980s, and I've also seen Ian Anderson's solo-with-band shows in the 1990s and again in 2010 or so. For a fair spell in the 2000s, the guitarist was Florian Opahle, originally from Germany. I must admit I am not familiar with his work. I saw him in concert once. I recall at the circa 2010 concert in Lowell, MA Florian played a shredding interpretation of a classical theme. What I found odd was while I appreciated his technical skill, I felt something was missing. The beauty of the classical melody had been reduced to an aggressively fast flurry. Kinda sorta like this example: A fun counterpoint is this arrangement of the same piece by the band Sky from 1980. They can play fast too. ? The two guitarists in this particular lineup were John Williams (classical) and Kevin Peek (electric). Both were from Australia. The other members of Sky at the time were from England, Herbie Flowers (bass), Tristan Fry (percussion) and Francis Monkman (keyboard). I've always been fond of the band, having seen two concert programs on cable TV in the 1980s. Edited June 30, 2024 by Brian Austin
Brian Austin Posted June 30, 2024 Posted June 30, 2024 Live version: I should point out that this song was a fairly big hit for the band. 1
Big John Posted July 1, 2024 Posted July 1, 2024 If your talking classical you must consider Andrés Segovia as a master of classical guitar solos.
Tim W. SoCal Posted July 5, 2024 Posted July 5, 2024 Way, way, WAY too many to list... but here are three of my all time favorites: Eric Clapton and Duane Allman in Derek and the Dominos "Layla" Outlaws "Green Grass and High Tides" Another vote for Lynard Skynner's "Free Bird" 1
Muncie Posted July 5, 2024 Posted July 5, 2024 (edited) good bet there will be some great Blues guitar here - the Portland Waterfront Blues Festival. it's simul cast live on KBOO 90.7 FM Radio - or on the web here Listen Now | KBOO St Paul and the Broken Bones will be up in a few minutes, not really a guitar band, but without looking at the schedule for the next few days, I will say that there will be some. 1972coronet Posted July 6, 2024 Posted July 6, 2024 Mono/single mix of Mr. Soul with its unique-to-mono guitar solo :
Musclecarbuilder Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 Anybody mention Van Halen? Panama is like one of his best songs. Fortunate son by CCR and Tom Sawyer by Rush. More Than a Feeling by Boston and the solo from Any Way You Want It from Journey. Oh cant forget Carry On Our Wayward Son by Kansas. There's so many more but I can't think of anything else at the moment.?
