e30lover Posted June 21, 2024 Posted June 21, 2024 (edited) Hey all, Here's my second build of 2024 - 65' Belvedere! I bought this at a local hobby shop. It seemed pretty new but the tires and wheels looked kinda off, so I bought staggered Mopar steelies and tires from Fireball Modelworks. The glaring issue I noticed was how shallow the panel lines were - it was so faint to the point I couldn't even place my scribing tools on the groove. So I ended up using scribing guide tape - I used Funtec's carbide engraving blade, Tamiya's scriber, and Wave's carving needle to scribe all of the panel lines. Not my best scribing work but they would look pretty decent from distance.. As usual I de-chromed some of parts that looked really bad using bleach, and front rear windshield was badly scratched up so I wet sanded & polished them. To simulate DD1 medium blue poly, I mixed Mr color's GX metallic blue, metallic green and gloss aluminum. I then followed my usual process - 2 base coats, 3 clear coats with 1 wet sand after the first clear coat. This time I made ignition wire loom with thin styrene sheets - it looked much better when all the wires are organized! The valve cover and airbox were painted with Alclad chrome and I added slight weathering effect using pastel for the tires. I painted the grille with silver and added panel wash. I painted the lower part of dashboard with body colour, upper part with darker shade of body colour then masked the middle section. The only addition from stock interior is a metal turn signal lever. I airbrushed the whole interior with a flat clear to get the right texture. Assembling bay was a bit tricky - normal modeling glue was too weak when I tried dry fitting the body so I ended up gluing the whole assembly with super glue. I lightly airbrushed mixture of brown and silver to the underbody and wet sanded the body with 3000, 6000 and 8000 grit sandpapers. Then I polished the body with Tamiya compounds and Hasegawa ceramic compound. At this point the paint was cured for couple months so it felt super crisp and solid. Pretty good result - can't complain! I then masked the body and painted the window trims - thank you for reading! Edited June 21, 2024 by e30lover typo 8
espo Posted June 21, 2024 Posted June 21, 2024 Beautiful looking detailing on every surface on this build. I have also built one of these and really like the kit as well. The panel line issue you mentioned was not an issue on main, but I have returned Moebius kits in the past that did. The hobby shop I go to refunded me for the kit since Moebius wouldn't do anything about it when contacted. I like how you have strived for the OEM look on this.
gman Posted June 21, 2024 Posted June 21, 2024 That is a very sharp build- your colour choices are great, paint job looks excellent. Nice work!
TNT Posted June 21, 2024 Posted June 21, 2024 Looks darn good. I did one mixed up some paint, the paint did not lay right so it went back in the box until i strip it. Is that frog tape? I tried masking with it but the paint ran under it. Maybe i need to burnish it down a bit more.
Tim W. SoCal Posted June 22, 2024 Posted June 22, 2024 SWEET lookin' Belvedere, GREAT detailing. I can't wait to see it finished...

I wasn't sure if it was defect or how the kit was designed. On 6/21/2024 at 2:52 PM, gman said: That is a very sharp build- your colour choices are great, paint job looks excellent. Nice work! I use either Tamiya or similar automotive grade (yellow) masking tape. On 6/21/2024 at 8:03 PM, Tim W. SoCal said: SWEET lookin' Belvedere, GREAT detailing. I can't wait to see it finished... Brutalform Posted June 26, 2024 Posted June 26, 2024 (edited) I agree with the rims. The rims and hub caps on these kits look really off. Your paint and detail work is impeccable. From the engine to the grill and rims, I can’t believe how beautiful everything has turned out. I can’t wait to see more, possibly under glass? Edited June 26, 2024 by Brutalform
Metalmad Posted June 26, 2024 Posted June 26, 2024 Came out really nice ! If you don't mind me asking what are the part numbers of the wheels and tires that you had ordered from Fireball.
