The G-Forces that he was subject to caused torn retinas in both eyes The biggest culprit was a larger parachute that the team switched to. Which caused him to retire in 2020. It proves that you don't have to crash to get injured. The doctors are testing Force for possible brain injuries. He is out of the ICU. Mike Yea, that’s a lot of g’s that instantly reverses.
espo Posted June 29, 2024 Posted June 29, 2024 Something to remember about what can happen to someone when their body suddenly stops or changes direction, the brain and other internal organs are still going in the original direction. This can cause far more than a bad headache. Let's keep our fingers crossed and wish for the best possible outcome.
bobss396 Posted June 30, 2024 Posted June 30, 2024 I read something on g-forces in crashes a long time ago. Things like the heart are unsupported, they rely on the plumbing to keep them in place. So things like major arteries can be torn. The brain can be scrambled with the head hitting a hard object or getting a "shaken baby" injury to it. I have had a concussions or 2 and they are slow to heal.
bobthehobbyguy Posted June 30, 2024 Posted June 30, 2024 https://www.nhra.com/news/2024/john-force-moving-forward-recovery-process Well John won't be back in the car this year and may have to retire. He's got a long road to recovery. 1
TonyK Posted June 30, 2024 Posted June 30, 2024 Yep, this was a good explanation about the past week. We just needed to be patient.
Mike 1017 Posted July 1, 2024 Author Posted July 1, 2024 Today's update. John Force health update: Long recovery expected after brain injury following devastating crash (msn.com)
vamach1 Posted July 1, 2024 Posted July 1, 2024 I hope he recovers and he realizes that was his last race. No shame in retiring as he really has nothing to prove anymore. Being stubborn is a double edged sword which could help him recover or hamper it if he ignores the doctors. If he was ten or fifteen years younger he would probably continue but hopefully his family will convince him otherwise.
slusher Posted July 2, 2024 Posted July 2, 2024 I would believe with his injury and age if he would be offered a car or pass a physical by the NHRA. I wish he does recovers.

Yea,I agree,it’s definetly time he hung up his race suit, and retire.Hes 75 years old.Imo he’s got to be the best drag racer of all time. However I remember, when i was younger, watching John struggle to win races,or even rounds. But since then,he’s a 16 time Funny car champion with over 157 wins. However this crash is probably in the top three of the worst crashes of his career. And he’s had a lot of “very” bad crashes over the years.I just hope he has a speedy, and full recovery.?? 2

I met him when he was running a shoestring operation. His guys would cash their paycheck and hand most back to John so they could compete at the next track! Really dedicated team! That says a lot of what kind of guy he is that they would do that! Many times at tracks in later years watched him at the table signing autographs and a little kid, especially if it was a girl would be there and he would ask if she like ice cream. He would go into the truck and come back with a soft serve cone for the kid! Had his own machine!

I can't see that the doctors are going to clear him. This wasn't a simple concussion.

NYLIBUD Posted July 2, 2024 Posted July 2, 2024 Yea I first met him at E town.Funny guy, signed my NHRA flag I bought that day.And he was nice enough to take the time out and take a picture with me. 1
slusher Posted July 2, 2024 Posted July 2, 2024 There’s a chance if he doesn't fully recovers that we may not see him much anymore. He has a serious brain injury. If his brain swelled they had to open his skull fro the swelling to extend.
Mike 1017 Posted July 6, 2024 Author Posted July 6, 2024 John Force update. It is a long article. Mike NHRA great John Force out of neurological intensive care (msn.com)
TonyK Posted July 6, 2024 Posted July 6, 2024 Sad but making progress. I just wish he could've decided on his own to retire. Hate for it to end this way. 1
