6bblbird Posted July 4, 2024 Posted July 4, 2024 (edited) A friend and I decided that we would build some cars that we had seen at what was once our local track ( New York National Speedway - born 1965 - died 1980 ) I found a couple of photos of the Speedwin Automotive 1965 Plymouth that were taken sometime during 1965. Using parts from a Moebius Belvedere kit and their AWB kit I was able to put this modified A-990 car together. Paint is Duplicator basic white with decals created by STS. Although I've put quite a few of these Moebius '65s together without a hitch, this one fought me in certain fitment areas. The interior tub had an interference issue with the body by the rear quarter window so I had to trim the top of the interior panel. The rear glass would not fit the window frame. It was too small! That was solved with a piece of acetate (which looks better , anyway) Aside from those few issues, I think that it turned out ok. I noticed a couple of things in the photos. Funny how you don't see them until AFTER you post. Yep, the door to the shop was installed upside down. I ll get the contractor back to fix that ( he doesn't speak English too well). The other was my thumb in one picture . I just can't unsee it!? Edited July 4, 2024 by 6bblbird spelling error 8
6bblbird Posted July 4, 2024 Author Posted July 4, 2024 Other things you notice, like '' Where's the upper radiator hose? It was still on the painting stick! 3 2
R. Thorne Posted July 4, 2024 Posted July 4, 2024 Love it! How often do you see an upside down Hooker (err, headers, that is, on the door). Great job.

TECHMAN Posted July 5, 2024 Posted July 5, 2024 Super clean build. 60s racecars are pretty much my favorite stuff, you did this one proud. DJ
Altered Ego Posted July 5, 2024 Posted July 5, 2024 Very nice job. I love all of the cars of this era. The big question I have is where did you find the Speedwin Automotive decals? I am a big fan of Joe Jill and Speedwin Automotive.
bobss396 Posted July 5, 2024 Posted July 5, 2024 Looks JUST LIKE one a club member built... National Speedway was a great place. The funny car shoots there were awesome. I would go home deaf for 3 days after.

6bblbird Posted July 5, 2024 Author Posted July 5, 2024 I did not have a printer or decent computer until a few days ago. I made the decals for the ramp truck finding similar fonts to what Speedwin used for their logo. Only cost me about $1500! I’ll probably find other users for the computer and printer that might bring the cost per decal down.? 2
Zippi Posted July 7, 2024 Posted July 7, 2024 Yeah, I'm diggin this build. Great looking replica of a local drag car from back in the day. Nicely done Walter.
6bblbird Posted July 7, 2024 Author Posted July 7, 2024 Thanks to everyone that replied! Very much appreciated ?
