SgtForce Posted July 11, 2024 Posted July 11, 2024 Hello. I've searched high and low here and on Google, but can't find an answer to my specific question. Can I apply decals to the "inside" of glass on a model, so the printed or top side of the decal is against the glass, facing out?

Fat Brian Posted July 12, 2024 Posted July 12, 2024 If I was going to attempt this I would soak the decal until it released from the backing paper and then keep soaking uuntil all the glue was washed off it. Then you could use something like Future to hold the face of the decal to the inside of the glass. Definitely attempt this with a decal and glass you don't care about first. 5

That is definitely a good plan Brian!

Tamiya sells a decal adhesive that I have used on older decals. That might be an option on the technique you described. I have not tried it though. 1
Oldriginal86 Posted July 13, 2024 Posted July 13, 2024 Sure it can be done. Cut close to the image and soak all the glue off as mentioned. Once applied and protected it’ll be fine.
peteski Posted July 13, 2024 Posted July 13, 2024 The "glue" is not really the main thing which keeps decal film adhered to the surface. Mostly it is natural cling. That glue is dextrose-based water-soluble adhesive which mostly remains on the wet backing paper. Whatever little is left on the decal film might help with adhesion a little. You should be able to apply the decals inside the "glass". If you worried about adhesion, carefully flip the decal film over on the wet backing paper, so some of the glue will stick to the front surface, then apply it to the inside of the glass.

I have done this, it works fine.

I'll try that. I wasn't sure if there was anything on the front of the decal that could be adhesive
