Rob Hall Posted October 21 Posted October 21 Raining again today...lots of leaves in my front and back yard...my yard guy is coming every other week since the grass isn't growing, should be creating big piles of leaves on the tree lawn this week for the city to vacuum up eventually.

Volzfan59 Posted October 21 Posted October 21 (edited) Rain!!! We had rain last Saturday, actually thunderstorms and it’s raining again this morning. I spent last week sewing grass seed over a good amount of dirt work we’ve done at the new place and covering it with a light amount of straw. The good Lord is handling the watering for me. Edit, looks like more rain this weekend! Edited October 21 by Volzfan59 1

TonyK Posted October 21 Posted October 21 Freaky. That spider is translucent. Or maybe just an albino.
Ace-Garageguy Posted October 21 Posted October 21 (edited) My front porch was overrun with big garden spiders this year, more than I've ever even seen in one place. Every morning I'd go out and get a new web in the face. I guess they were eating the paper wasps and yellowjackets that built nests out there too. Good spiders. Eat all you want. Though I removed the wasp and YJ nests, there were still plenty of skeeters to feast on. Several much cooler days and 2 nights of 40-degree F temps, spiders all gone. Probably just moved indoors. bobss396 Posted October 25 Posted October 25 We went out to Montauk this week. It was warm, around 66 F. The lighthouse was not open, the gift shop too. 2
Mike C Posted October 31 Posted October 31 I had an encounter with a jumping spider. He even jumped onto the camera lens a couple of times. He wouldn't keep still. 2
Russell C Posted November 1 Posted November 1 7 hours ago, Mike C said: .. had an encounter with a jumping spider. ... Those are great! In my patio where I'd prefer them not to be underfoot or on my outdoors workbench, I coax them to jump onto my hand so I can give 'em a ride to one of the nearby plants or bushes so they can eat whatever vermin insects I'd rather not have in my patio area at all.
TonyK Posted November 1 Posted November 1 As much as I hate spiders this one is ok. Fun to watch them darting about and jumping. Almost seems as if they're entertaining you.
HomerS Posted November 1 Posted November 1 Let the trio after their dinner Tuesday and I hear Bear barking folllowed by the clang of the fence. I figure it was one of the crazy cat ladys cats making break for it but nope....young deer hoped into the neighbors yard. It rained for two days here so just had that suspecion it could make a return appearance. Midday Wednesday bio moment, I checked the yard and it was back. Dogs are bougie so likely won't go out so just went back in. Waited a couple hours hoping Bambi.....nope decided it liked my yard and decided to hang laying down. Nooo!! Nine pounds of vicious terror of mini dachshund would be the most likely candidate to go check it out, I went back in for a couple more hours. Dinner time and I check yet again. It's standing up so I decided it was 'last call' and took a plastic grocery bag and walked towards it slowly russling it. It finally got the hint and went over the back fence again. My Aussie was abused before I adopted her and she still has bad memories so she is more passive aggressive type to bark from a safe distance. As the senior citizen of the bunch, Bear is not one to start a confrontation but certainly one to investigate 1
bobss396 Posted November 6 Posted November 6 More Bird Buddy action. Looks like the bluejays pretty much took it over. One gave me a pretty good moon shot. ce1db40d-165e-4fee-a0de-658234479be4.mp4 e9596db4-5684-466d-aa27-c5c4a2e3db7d.mp4 5094f99e-33d5-4819-abfe-a5c710c5c59a.mp4 58bce90a-7a45-4356-b1a3-3de6f0cd5e13.mp4 8b7a8e9a-48c8-4678-be80-f23322f11c2f.mp4 9df2654e-d2fc-4ec6-9158-523fd3189ef3.mp4 a0dd6e80-659a-443d-96c1-2008720a7875.mp4 1

Although repeatedly referred to as a “bite” in the literature, the injury actually occurs through a stab of your skin by their needle-like rostrum and a dose of their defensive/digestive product—described as “10 times worse” than stings from bees, wasps, or hornets. The sensation has been described as a burning, very sharp pain that can be followed by numbness in the local area for several days. YIKES!! 1

I've never messed with them when I've come across any and now I know I definitely won't.
Rodent Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago This was a few days ago, but I was standing at the kitchen sink when a hummingbird flew up to the feeder just outside the window. He started to feed, but stopped, flew to the window, and hovered there looking at me. I swear he was giving me the stink eye for allowing the feeder to get empty. 🤣 1 2

And they can learn to trust people and can even be hand fed. So I wouldn't be surprised if he was giving you a look. They seem to have a bit of intelligence in that small brain. JollySipper Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago Saw a cat while out with the dog........ That is kind of a good thing, as the more Emmett is familiar with cats, the less he'll think they're a threat. He had one hiss at him as a puppy, and was kind of unsure about them for a while after. 1
bobss396 Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago The Bird Buddy never lets me down. Yesterday a bluejay and grackle were the stars of the show. 0abc3b94-7e5b-439d-a04d-8d1e923b71cb.mp4 2db5a5a5-e1a9-445d-b2b6-01d1c63953ac.mp4
