Stepped out to check the mail today, and the across the street neighbors cat ran out from my front flower bed. When looked to see what it was doing, I found this. 20241105_093024.thumb.jpg.dbce2200271afead6547ee93a2bcd70d.jpg

Man, I don't think his feet would bring any luck seeing they weren't lucky for him, best leave them be..?

I was around 11... 2 of our outdoor tom cats ran down a large rabbit in the snow in the front yard.

Holy crime scene Batman... they managed to turn it inside out.

Man, that's nasty. ?

My mom had us dig up the snow in the area and dump it in the street. But it was cold and it stayed with us until it melted.

Cats are okay and all, but there's one around the complex that goes around door-to-door begging for food......... I took a pitcher of water to it this morning. It took two baths before it got the message! I love all animals, but it was at my door meowing, and I have a dog......

Heard a ruckus outside last night. Opened the back door to better hear what was going on. The local Coyotes were calling each to other. My wife said the new neighbors were asking a lot of questions about it on the local neighborhood web site. She told them to make sure any small dogs or cats were inside. Living on the edge of the prairie can be interesting at times.

Every year during pupping season, someone panics over the "Satanic Worshippers" shredding the neighborhood feral cats.

My cat ? sits on my bedroom window sill and howls at something he sees outside in the wee hours.

Likely raccoons or possums. I believe that something has taken both of my rabbits ? out.

This morning I found the mouse trap I set out last night about 10 feet from it's original spot. Had to look for it and there was a foot caught in it with a lot of scratch marks. ?

It's a plastic trap that always kills them right across the head or neck for a quick death but this time I'm left with a gruesome "what happened" story.

I knew something was amiss last night when we were upstairs in our bedroom and one of our dogs suddenly looked up and continued to look toward the backyard. Most likely listening to the snap and struggle thereafter. Uggghhh.

I set a mouse (or rat) trap the other day in my grandma’s garage and those traps are larger than regular mouse traps, so I think they’re rat traps; but anyway I checked it and it was just the furry skin of the mouse; the actual body was gone, just a bloody hide in the trap so I have no idea what the holy halibut skinned that mouse on the trap. Never seen anything like that before.

I feed so many stray cats. TJ, put a little dog food out there dry softened in water or some can food would be a good gesture of kindness…

You're right, Carl man..... That would be the right thing to do. They get fed plenty, though. There's several apts who feed them....

The property next door was overgrown and finally cleared around 2004. With that, we had rats all over by me.

I set up glue traps in the garage. Nailed to scrap lumber so they couldn't walk away with them. Also the wood Victor traps, also nailed down. I finally caught about 10 of them.

A couple of years ago. I saw baby rats playing in my yard. I got some of the Victor plastic snap-traps which I highly recommend. I got hits on the baited traps within 30 minutes. But.. I also got a Robin in one. So I put the traps under plastic containers to keep the birds out.

Yes, I had a bird partially trapped and he was still alive. Managed to set him loose and he hung around awhile and then flew off so I was happy about that.

Now I only set traps at night and put them back in the shed at daylight. Don't want the squirrels or my dogs getting to them. I use peanut butter for bait.

I like your method of nailing traps down. Smart.

I've been using a set of wood Victor traps also; and back in 2020 I set one on the ledge on the side of the garage because there were these horrible red squirrels wreaking havoc in the garage, and so I got one there a couple times, but then accidentally a Blue Jay. However, the Jay was still alive, but wasn't really doing well. Put it in a box overnight hoping it would come to, but it was dead the next morning. Felt bad enough that I actually buried the thing in a tin can and marked the grave with a cinderblock.

Had a mouse problem in a house I lived in many years ago. Very rural area and they would get into the laundry room. I went to do the laundry one night and there was a couple of them that had fallen into a plastic waste basket, and they couldn't get out. One of them overpowered the other and was eating him. They are really nasty when hungry.

That was my suspicion as to why there was just the bloody hide of the mouse in my trap. I thought only grasshopper mice were cannibals but I guess regular old field mice can be, too.

So, we have a water main access beside my apt building...... Some kind of main valve. It's been uncovered for the longest time, until one of the tenants complained that it was a hazard. Our maintenance guy in his infinite wisdom thought he could just put a cover on it and all be well....... Here's what he did.........

SDC11146.JPG.5798305dc7654830182f9cb90d86aeb2.JPG

It looks like a legitimate fix at first. The hole is covered, all is well........ or is it?

The screws you see don't go into anything! If someone were to trip over this and flip that lid, they would end up impaled on those screws!

It's more of a hazard now than it was before he 'fixed' it.........

Probably spent all day coming up with this idea, it is quite funny .........

The dead possum that was peacefully decomposing under the tree next to the mailbox disappeared mysteriously, leaving nothing but a few tufts of fur behind.

Some kind of scavenger with truly disgusting culinary tastes. But I guess to somebody, it was aged to perfection.

Funny... by my dad out east they were always on the move, as he backed up to a county park and they traveled in large groups. Right before Thanksgiving.. they vanished for some reason.

Dogs on the loose will walk away with something like that.. or roll around in it...
