Tommy124 Posted September 18, 2024 Author Posted September 18, 2024 Many thanks to all of you for your kind words. Your positive feedback feels good and is much appreciated! ?
radiohd10 Posted September 18, 2024 Posted September 18, 2024 This was one of the first kits i ever built back in 2021. It's also the one kit I've given up on. The only joy i got out of it was when I threw it off the roof of my apartment building - NOTHING fit, the decals stunk (and ruined my paint job), the engine and interior are a joke. I've gotten a little better since then, so it's nice to see it has potential for those willing to invest a bit of time...maybe I'll give her another go down the road if I can get it looking this nice. Awesome job! Racing blue might be my fave Tamiya spray color as well - give it a try over gloss black some time...it comes out sooo good. 1
Ace-Garageguy Posted September 18, 2024 Posted September 18, 2024 The results speak for themselves. Congrats for your perseverance and overcoming multiple problems. 1
spencer1984 Posted September 18, 2024 Posted September 18, 2024 Outstanding work on one of the most frustrating kits out there - great job! 1
M W Elky Posted September 19, 2024 Posted September 19, 2024 For some reason I always really liked this kit when I was 14 i had inherited a built one with the drag parts I tried to restore it back to stock, but ended up with a horrible orange peeled paint job. So I feel your pain you’ve got a killer paint job with a great vinyl top. The hurst equipped emblem is a really nice detail 1
Sledsel Posted September 19, 2024 Posted September 19, 2024 I'd say you did a great job. Glad you didn't give up!!! 1
mrm Posted September 21, 2024 Posted September 21, 2024 As I like to say - it's all good when it ends good. And by the looks of your final result, it's definitely all good. 1
Yeah Nah Posted September 21, 2024 Posted September 21, 2024 You did well on this Thomas. My own recent experience with this very kit confirms everything you went through to get it finished. I remember being ankle deep in plastic shavings trying to get that grille/front bumper looking like it actually belongs on this car! But, same as you, stubborn persistence in the end produced a model of (to my eye) the nicest looking GTO. Garry G 1 1
Ragtop Man Posted September 22, 2024 Posted September 22, 2024 You got the best of it after a long fight, that's for sure. Really impressive knowing how beat up the tool is. I recall another build posted here of the same kit, with a LOT of rework to get the chrome fitting up correctly. IMO, best course of action for anyone wanting the '67 is to look for an annual builder. The MPC retool in the 80's was well-intentioned (we rejoiced, in fact) the surgery to recover from the "Mr. Unswitchable" conversion left something to be desired. I think a few builders of the era in early SA's mentioned the same thing, and put a lot of energy fixing it into their builds. 1
Chinacar Posted September 23, 2024 Posted September 23, 2024 Most excellent! That finish is a mile deep! 1
Funkychiken Posted September 23, 2024 Posted September 23, 2024 Turned out a stunner considering the issues you faced. 1
drifterdon Posted November 26, 2024 Posted November 26, 2024 Coming to this one late. Thomas you did and amazing job of turning a sow's ear into a silk purse. This is a real pig of a kit. I've been slogging on my own '67 Goat for several years. I work on it till I get frustrated then it goes back in the box for another extended period of time. And that blue finish is simply gorgeous. 1
