James2 Posted October 2, 2024 Posted October 2, 2024 (edited) I’m gonna say this will be a progress thread, on account I have a PS Barracuda and the 55 custom to work on. But I’m a little excited to try this! I used the pill bottle trick for the tubs and scrap styrene for sheet metal and the frame. Then I took a bunch of measurements, cut up a Ford 9” from a Revell kit and narrowed it to fit perfectly. Wheel and tire combo from the AMT Corvette Gasser sanded and re-profiled slightly. I hope a little filler and sanding that chassis should look pretty good. Edited October 8, 2024 by James2 4

Steve H Posted October 4, 2024 Posted October 4, 2024 Nice start James. I’m a big fan of anything tubbed. 1
slusher Posted October 4, 2024 Posted October 4, 2024 James you really know how to build hot rods and prostreet models. Great start and real nice wheels! 1
James2 Posted October 6, 2024 Author Posted October 6, 2024 Progress report. I believe the interior will fit just fine including the rear seat. Eventually I’ll bend up a roll bar. I decided to use an engine from the 32 Roadster from Revell. I did remove the timing cover and installed the one from the 57 kit to use the stock engine mount. I’ll need to fab a trans mount still. Other than some fine tuning, I’m pretty settled on the rear axel. More to figure out. Hoping to focus on this one but I’m in no hurry. 7
James2 Posted October 9, 2024 Author Posted October 9, 2024 Knocked up an exhaust this evening with evergreen and headers from a Monogram 56 Chevy. 7
Mr. Metallic Posted October 11, 2024 Posted October 11, 2024 This is looking really good. Nice work tubbing the rear. 1

mrm Posted October 22, 2024 Posted October 22, 2024 Very nice. I love that blown SBC. I think that the motor in the Rat Roaster is the nicest street blown SBC in kit form. It looks good no matter what you put it in. 1
James2 Posted October 22, 2024 Author Posted October 22, 2024 Boy I must be slipping, just noticed my dbl posting! Jeez.....
James2 Posted November 9, 2024 Author Posted November 9, 2024 Disaster has struck! Paint failure while removing mask at two tone. I used 2x clear from Splash Paint, IDK if it will come off. 1
slusher Posted November 12, 2024 Posted November 12, 2024 I hope it really works out James, might require a new body. I hope it stripes…

BK9300 Posted November 13, 2024 Posted November 13, 2024 That must be very frustrating - any idea why the paint didn't stick to the primer?
espo Posted November 13, 2024 Posted November 13, 2024 A thought that may or may not apply to what happened with your paint work. Having had something along this line happen before. I have found that before removing the masking tape use a sharp #11 along the edge of the tape, basically cutting the paint between the tape and the body, may prevent this in the future.
