THarrison351 Posted December 7, 2024 Posted December 7, 2024 Nice kit! Best 71-73 Mustang I've built or seen kitted. Decals are a disappointment, several items have no white underlayment and or the registration is off enough to make them useless. The outer wheels should come chromed, I believe the Revell of Germany version did this, and their decals were more extensive. All other faults are my own. Tamiya paints. Thanks for looking! The blackout rockers are opaque, viewed from the side and top they are ok, but when viewed from the bottom in the last photo, you'll see they appear brown I "chromed" the wheels, but the effect is not as good as Revell could have provided. Also, the pad printed tires are wonky The interior is one of the best I've seen for detail from the domestics in a long time. I have an aftermarket 3D resin printed Ram Air attached even though the real car did not come with one. The hood has an impression and the air cleaner is correct for the Ram Air system, so why not. I lost the starter relay/voltage regulator soon after I finished detail painting it. It was in my alligator clip, and then it was somewhere in my hobby room. I might attempt to duplicate something with scrap plastic. I just noticed I forgot to paint the radiator cap. The under hood detail is very nice and those that choose to super detail, will love this. The chassis is well detailed and all the parts fit perfect! See what I meant about the rocker decals, brown. I think I'll be looking at purchasing the Boss 351 to build in the future 12
TransAmMike Posted December 7, 2024 Posted December 7, 2024 (edited) I'll be the first to comment Tim. Great job all round on the Mustang. I'm not a fan of his body style but you have made it look good. Quality work!! Edited December 7, 2024 by TransAmMike
michelle Posted December 7, 2024 Posted December 7, 2024 very nice mustang this is my favorite mustang generation and body style
AMT68 Posted December 8, 2024 Posted December 8, 2024 Stunning build and all of the detail work (trim, grill etc) are absolutely spot on. I really like the wheels and tires on this kit. Don't often see whitewalls on muscle or pony cars.
TooOld Posted December 8, 2024 Posted December 8, 2024 Too bad about the issues , not the first time I've seen messed up decals or tires with the printing off center . Otherwise you've done a great job and I love that red , beautifully done Tim !
70 Sting Posted December 9, 2024 Posted December 9, 2024 Certainly one of the very best versions of this kit I’ve seen built. 👍
STU111 Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 I’ve got the Boss 351 release of this kit and if mine turns out anywhere near as good as your 007 version here, then I’ll be happy. Top job. 👍🏻
Rattlecan Dan Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 Very nice paint and detailing. Great-looking build.
vamach1 Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 Very nicely done and beautiful paint. On these builds (Boss and Mach1) I painted the lower part versus using the entire decal. I just used only the silver part of the decal but I suppose one could also used a very thin piece of plastic painted silver as it is a trim piece on the real car which does protrude from the body. The ram-air plenum piece you added looks great and is the same as what was used on factory Boss 351 and all 71-73 Mustangs with functional ram-air. A lot of Mustang owners have added the ram-air to their Mustangs as a complete system is available from aftermarket suppliers. Having built a fair amount of original and reissued AMT and MPC kits of the 71-73 sportsroof Mustangs over the years, the two Revell versions (Mach1 and Boss 351) have brought this body style Mustang on par with other modern tooling premium kits.
Jim Dodson Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 Impressive bit of work and craftsmanship there. At one time in my mis-spent youth I purchased a derelict 71 off the used car lot that needed a full rebuild and loved driving that car until I tired of the poor reliability. Foolishly had it painted in a non-factory burnt orange color as I couldn't tolerate the original yellow color. Sounds like I need to get the Revell kit and try duplicating in scale my Texas Longhorns inspired Mustang. BTW, it had a rebuilt 351Cleveland with 750cfm Holley 4 barrel without the Ram Air system. Put the Mach1 striping on it without the rear window louvers. Lots of fun when running properly, but very 'tail happy' under acceleration. Miss that car now.

Fortunately the Mach1 I bought 42 years ago is still in my garage. You can used parts from the Boss and Mach1 kits to recreate the one you owned. That’s my son with my car at a show a few month ago.
Jim Dodson Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 I should have been more diplomatic in my statement regarding the color 'yellow' on my old '71. Yours looks bright and beautiful! When I rescued mine from the used car lot its paint was beyond saving and required a respray regardless of the color chosen. My compliments on your 1:1 'stang and its awesome security system!

Thank you! Yeah, I went lazy on a few things on this one. My son gave me the AMT 007 Mustang to build and it was so bad I have other plans for it. I'll be making it into a fantasy NASCAR Grand American stock car. Meanwhile I ordered this for a quick replacement and finished as quick as possible. I can see you are fan of this body with all the cars and information you have. It's my favorite of all the Mustangs too. The Boss 351 is my choice. 23 hours ago, Jim Dodson said: Impressive bit of work and craftsmanship there.
