dino246gt Posted December 15, 2024 Author Posted December 15, 2024 Today's the annual contest at the Winnipeg Model Car Club, and I'm taking my Early Falcon Gasser, so won't have time to work on the Merc. But it's there on the bench! Cheers! Happy Sunday Dec. 15th. 7
BK9300 Posted December 15, 2024 Posted December 15, 2024 Ditto - Best of luck! Maybe post a pic of your Falcon at the contest? 1

Kenmojr Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 Loving what you are doing to this Merc. And using a Ferrari suspension components is cool. Too bad I could not do this to my real life C1 1960 Vette and replace the kingpin front suspension with newer C4 or C5 components without going the Art Morrison route. Looking forward more to your WIP. Cheers from Halifax and best of luck to your Winnipeg Jets from a fan of the St Louis Blues since 1968. 1
dino246gt Posted December 18, 2024 Author Posted December 18, 2024 Building the 351 Windsor with Tremec 6-speed for this Merc project: (3D printed) 3
dino246gt Posted December 18, 2024 Author Posted December 18, 2024 (edited) I had to do some serious mods to the frame to fit that engine, with headers! Looks terrible now, but it'll turn out fine, I'm sure! (I'm sure hoping) .030 styrene is equal to 3/4" so I "welded 3/4" steel to the outsides of the front frame before making cut-outs to clear the headers" LOL Edited December 25, 2024 by dino246gt 2
dino246gt Posted December 19, 2024 Author Posted December 19, 2024 Sanded and primed, it's starting to look better. 1
dino246gt Posted December 19, 2024 Author Posted December 19, 2024 Of course I'll smooth all those frame mods out, this is just to make sure the engine fits. 2
dino246gt Posted December 20, 2024 Author Posted December 20, 2024 Sadly I discovered that only 3 of the Webers match, one is wider and cannot be used. I've contacted the 3D printer but he says a replacement is simply not available from the US to Canada, at lease for the near future. So............. I'm thinking of making an intake for 3 of them in a more traditional tri-power set up, any suggestions? I'm open to any suggestions, such as intakes from modern Mustangs or whatever, maybe even dual quads ala Thunderbolt, but that seems so "expected" I liked the idea of the cross ram because it's so unique. Cheers!

Sledsel Posted December 20, 2024 Posted December 20, 2024 This is looking pretty cool and the engine looks great. Really not sure how that rack and pinion is gonna work tho!!!!! LMAO 1

Steve H Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 This is coming along really nicely Dennis. Kind of a shame about the carbs. I was wondering if you could just cut off the intake trumpets and replace them with bootlace ferrules, but I see the carb itself is different.☹️ The rest of the engine looks fantastic, I’m sure whatever you do for a “fix” will turn out great. Is the gold on the valve covers and oil pan Tamiya? Looks spot on. 1
customline Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 What about casting another Weber? Or modifying the funny one? Nothing to lose by trying. Floor pan looks fantastic, Dennis, can't tell it's not "real" 👍 1
dino246gt Posted December 23, 2024 Author Posted December 23, 2024 Greg Hoffman is going to try to make resin copies of the Webers for me, THANK YOU GREG! If they don't turn out I have plan B, and C, D, E and F! (F being, well let's hope it doesn't get there, LOL) The valve covers and oil pan ARE Tamiya, TS-87 Titanium Gold. It's NOT going to have rack and pinion, that part will become the tie rod and proper-ish steering gear added. I've gone a bit off script with the front bumper and grille, made much more work for myself......that's what I love about modeling! 3
Ace-Garageguy Posted December 23, 2024 Posted December 23, 2024 Some fine looking work going on here. Good stuff. 2
