Mattilacken Posted January 1 Author Posted January 1 So after couple hours at the bench the chassi has no longer the exhaust molded in, and a much larger gas tank has been fitted, only the first out of two. 3

Fat Brian Posted January 2 Posted January 2 I'm beginning to remember why I didn't even start this last time. This thing is a PIECE! Look at those door gaps, only the best from old Revell. I've decided I'm done polishing feces so this thing is going to get turned into a rusted out shell for a trailer or something. I've made an executive decision and funds have been allocated, a new Hasegawa T1 is on the way. I'll post a new pic when it gets here. 3

I'll post a new pic when it gets shame that the Revell bus won’t do the job, I like that they included opening doors with some of those earlier kits, but I too have dealt with the frustration of dealing with their execution of the feature! that hasegawa kit does look miles better! the picture isn’t one of my builds, but it highlights the detail of the kit well! I look forward to seeing progress when the kit arrives! Edited January 2 by JimmyRiggins 1

I hâd a similar frustration with an old model (that I was really looking forward to building, the picture I have of it isn’t the best but 2 pillars split, the trunk split, and it split about a quarter of the length of the quarter panel… such are the frustrations of brittle old styrene) fortunately that one was also saveable! cheers

I look forward to seeing progress when the kit arrives! The old Revell kit could be brought around but I would like to build more than one kit this year. I love participating in the Cannonball build but I try not to let it eat my whole year of build time. I had also intended this year to be a kit I already had but what's one more on the pile of shame? 3
JimmyRiggins Posted January 2 Posted January 2 Some progress has been made on the mustang , unfortunately due to camera related issues I was not able to document some of the progress. I started to build an enclosure for a rear mounted radiator setup (I’m really working to take weight off of the front wheels) with some strong puller fans to keep the car nice and cool! there will be a small remainder of a rear window above the radiator area to retain some rear window visibility, I have an interesting idea on how I’ll use mirrors to my advantage to mitigate blind spots. Where the camera left off is, the exhaust for an f1 car doesn’t lend itself well to a car with fenders. So some surgery was required… mr. Riggins went down to the yard and picked up a set of aftermarket headers from an old rusty super stock dart, (the spacing between cylinders worked out pretty darn close to perfect, the Revell dart kit truly is one of my favourite kits to pick parts from!! (Builds nice too though!)) broke out the welding machine, and grafted those pipes to the exhaust flanges from the f1 headers. Now we have a free flowing set of headers that will clear the steering shaft and flow like a race car should! Pics for proof later 😉 3
Pat Minarick Posted January 2 Posted January 2 Body back into one piece, 73 interior bucket fits with the 71 chassis. Really surprised it's fitting, only a little sanding on the trunk extensions was all it needed. 6
iamsuperdan Posted January 2 Posted January 2 Okay, I looked, I thought about it, and I'm in. 1974 Ford Gran Torino wagon - fully 3D printed. Still fleshing out the details, but it will be period correct. 11
53gmc Posted January 2 Posted January 2 Gonna see if I can do something with this. If the hemi doesn't fit, I've got a few other options. Got a 3d grill to back date it to a 73-75 5
stitchdup Posted January 2 Posted January 2 i have been thinking about printing out a zakspeed body for this but i found an old resin escort that is just awful. the roof is flat, the bonnet is flat and it has other issues too. so this afternoon i hacked it up and will try to build my own wide body first using the resin fenders. i mean just look how bad this is and believe it or not i have some much worse bodies from the same seller, lol. just look how off the top half of the resin is 5

Mattilacken Posted January 2 Author Posted January 2 #3 ‘Cuda some body progress have been made. I have made new drop lists for the side window openings since they looked naked without them. I also opened up the rear trunk.. mostly to show of a huge aluminum tank but still wanted to do that. I have also crafted a new shelf for the battery since the kit had a molded battery there that I hacked away years ago and only left me with an empty hole, but no more. and lastly I remade how the front valance is done. I glued the sides and cut it more like the 1:1, saw it being done by an other member on here years ago. Looks more realistic to me since I now can star massaging the fenders. 2
Mattilacken Posted January 2 Author Posted January 2 This will be this nights last update. I have never been a huge fan of shaker hoods. And now when I have an engine which is more accurate the kit supplied base for the shaker hood looks bigger than the engine. So some thing else had to be done. The challenger scoop was a good base but not to fun so I remade it to resemble the shaker a bit and opened it up. Think it fits the build now. 5
53gmc Posted January 3 Posted January 3 Gonna combine the kits 440 with an old revell 440. The kits 440 is really an uninspiring lump of plastic, it's gonna donate its oil pan, transmission and pulley system. The revell 440 is alot more detailed, but it's from the 49 mercury kit. So it has a ford transmission that will have to go 2
stitchdup Posted January 3 Posted January 3 I figured a pic of what i'm trying to build would help see what i'm aiming for. this style was between the arched and full wide body zakspeed cars. its biggest attraction for me is the 14x14 inch rear wheels. i've also kept the trunk lid from the resin just in case i decide to open it later but theres not much plastic between the lid and glass 6

Looking forward to seeing it take shape.👍

My starting point will be a Glue Bomb that I bought at a swap meet several years ago, then later I robbed the engine from it for another project. Now that this thing will be rebuilt, it will have another 409 for power. After the year changes, I'll start tearing it up and stripping the old paint off. Perfect starting point! 1
stitchdup Posted January 3 Posted January 3 i've opened the trunk but its a bit dark for pics so i'll get them in the morning. i need to now figure out hinges as i only have a 3mm wide strip to fit them unless i mount the hinges to the side. i'm nt overly worried if i wreck the body as i found files for one but i like the idea of building my own. now if i can find a monogram mustang imsa gtp kit i can make a pretty big jump ahead as it has a zakspeed engine with the correct heads 1
53gmc Posted January 4 Posted January 4 Got the motor built with parts from the parts box engine and the kit engine. 4
Beans Posted January 4 Posted January 4 Lots of progress being made. I've managed to open the kit...also started working the chassis fitment and thinking about ride height but that's about as far as I have gone so far. 6
