NOT dumping on HPI.......BUT saying that bent A pillars are normal and nothing can be done to keep it from happening is WRONG. My old Monogram issue of the kit has good A pillars!!!! At $60+ I expect a good product. IF I buy the Revell issue of it and has bent A pillars it goes back!!! 14
deuces wild Posted January 2 Author Posted January 2 I still have mine from 20 years ago and I haven't built it yet... But I did check the body out and it looks perfect....😎👍 2
rrb124@sbcglobal.net Posted January 3 Posted January 3 Just difficult to believe that the company is not aware of something that has been stressed for decades called Quality Control. It is critical for goods and services! This is negligence on their part. 6
Rodent Posted January 3 Posted January 3 Every time this kit has been out, I have fondled it in the LHS and returned it to the shelf because a) I don't have a lot of space for built large scale kits and b) I couldn't justify the price point for what is basically an inflated 1/25 kit. It looks like retail on this one is going to be close to $100. I was at 5:29 in Chris' video when I decided that I won't be getting this release either. Maybe I will if Hobby Lobby puts one on extreme clearance and I decide to go for 3D printed wheels/tires and maybe the normal 1x4 barrel intake. Otherwise no. His example had both a junk body and a junk decal sheet. Not good. Door lines need a good rescribing and the hood hinge slashes in the firewall are tragic at this scale. I realize that this is an old kit, but at this size couldn't they originally have made the stock wheels three pieces? What are 6.70x15 Firestone Supremes doing in a '69 Camaro kit? No wonder they don't fit the wheels. 2
deuces wild Posted January 3 Author Posted January 3 Yeah, I believe the Goodyear F70-15s were stock for that car...
Force Posted January 3 Posted January 3 No kit should have bent A-pillars, if it does the packaging is poor and so is the quality control, I believe they still do the molding in China. I don't know if the box for this one is the for Revell Germany flimsy side opener box or the more sturdy Revell two piece box, I wish Revell would stop with the worthless side opener box wich doesn't allow stacking as they are flimsy as h*ll and doesn't carry much weight. 3

The kit is out in it's North American boxing, it's running roughly $47-$52 depending on where you buy it which is a hot discount compared to importing the Euro boxing and dealing with Euro conversion and Int'l Shipping. 2 hours ago, Force said: No kit should have bent A-pillars, if it does the packaging is poor and so is the quality control, I believe they still do the molding in China. There's boxings for both sides of the Atlantic as shown in the first post of this thread. 1

Luc Janssens Posted January 3 Posted January 3 The hobby shop in my neck of the woods (Antwerp) charges €124 (about the same as in Micky Mouse money) the Revell Germany website lists it as €145, this is of course for the Euro boxing. 1
deuces wild Posted January 3 Author Posted January 3 (edited) I took another look at my kit from 2005 and found these in there... Guess at the time I wanted to build a Grumpy Pro Stocker..😏 The slicks and deep dish Cragars are from the Carl Casper's Shaker trike that is also 1/12 scale.. And the front runners are from the Monogram '57 chevy that's also 1/12 scale.... Now that I'm actually retired, I just might try to build this one.... Edited January 3 by deuces wild 4
deuces wild Posted January 3 Author Posted January 3 This one is also molded in white, black and chrome... Decal sheet has the white stripes also...

At that point in his video, when the a pillars were bent, and he said they can be straightened out with hot water, etc, I tuned the video off. $60 isn’t expensive, but isn’t inexpensive either. Still that’s an issue that makes me pass on a kit. Thanks to Chris for posting that video, because I was seriously considering purchasing it. I never had a decal go on correctly, with a fold going right through the decal on the paper either. Edited January 4 by Brutalform 2

Yes I saw that, but I don't know what box the "bent A-pillar" kit came out of, if it was out of the flimsy side opener box I can understand it as these boxes are worthless piece of cheap cr*p IMHO, but it can also happen with the sturdier two piece boxes if they are packed wrong. It could also have happened at the factory for some reason but that should be caught at the quality control if they have one. Edited January 6 by Force

I don't think Revell use side opening boxes for the large scale kits at least none that I own.
deuces wild Posted January 7 Author Posted January 7 I remember those.... Them things are flimsy.....🙄🤨
deuces wild Posted January 7 Author Posted January 7 Maybe the R.O.G. kit has more optional parts.. ie, rally sport grill with opening headlight doors, RS tail lights and photo etch emblems...🤔🤔 Wishful thinking!.....😟😟😟

I bought a used 68 Chevelle kit on eBay, so I can get the correct color SS stripes I needed for a WIP. Now you have me thinking… I’ll have to look to see if this particular kit has anything else different. 1
