junkyardjeff Posted February 9 Posted February 9 I bought a bunch of parts a couple years ago and this was in it,it's the combination of a Revell 56 F 100 and 57 Ranchero. It's just screaming save me even though I really do not like radical customs,I do not think it was ever finished. 10 1
WillyBilly Posted February 9 Posted February 9 I would rock that all day long. It screams "Let loose and get creative." Have fun with it. 1
Old Buckaroo Posted February 9 Posted February 9 That is a pretty darn cool - I love that kind of modeling. Anything that has met Mr. Razor saw rates pretty high with me...
rattle can man Posted February 10 Posted February 10 You made the right choice to save it. Perhaps a slight chop? 3" or less. And keep the wheel choice period appropriate.
Russell C Posted February 10 Posted February 10 Yes. In answer to your post title question, it's an affliction many of us have when it comes to old buildups. Agree on the top chop, wouldn't take much lose the too-tall look. 1
Zippi Posted February 10 Posted February 10 Yeah, you might want to throw that body in a box and save it for a rainy day.
Bullybeef Posted February 10 Posted February 10 Looks like the body has been sectioned so I’d leave the top alone and just channel that over a frame and leave it the way the builder intended, it’s only an original survivor once. 3
johnyrotten Posted February 10 Posted February 10 That's a cool looking custom truck, I agree with leaving the top alone, and the channel. It would look good on any almost any wheel combo, depending how you decide to take it.
junkyardjeff Posted February 11 Author Posted February 11 I have some late 50s spinner hub caps and white wall tires that will be going on,the front of the frame is messed up so I will have to graft a newer front suspension on it to keep it low and maybe a coil over type rear suspension. Its in a box now and not sure when I get to it but will have all the parts located when the time comes and since the hood is glued shut it will not get a detailed engine. 2
rattle can man Posted February 11 Posted February 11 The point about it being original is a valid one. I personally would have tough time choosing whether to chop it or not. For my 2 cents, the chassis, engine, and interior really should be sympathetic to a '60s era custom. Mixing modern trends with '60s custom just doesn't work for me.
Spex84 Posted February 11 Posted February 11 I love this thing and I think it's worth saving as-is. If you were to rebuild it from scratch, I agree that a slight top-chop would help it flow a little better. I keep imagining it with a normal ride height up front, and slammed in the back, like a lowrider. That probably wasn't the stance the original builder was going for, though! 1
espo Posted February 12 Posted February 12 That paint job would be hard to reproduce unless you're going to change color anyway. Maybe restore it in sort of a '50 - '60's era style.
junkyardjeff Posted March 26 Author Posted March 26 I now have all the parts needed, will most likely be a rainy day project this spring or summer. 2
Sledsel Posted March 26 Posted March 26 Save it or donate it to someone that will. I'll take that bullet for everyone.... LOL 1
1930fordpickup Posted March 26 Posted March 26 You could do this as your grandfathers truck from when he was a car guy. Just clean it up and polish the paint after you get it back on its wheels. Would this have been the tow vehicle for the 34 you also have already posted? Move forward with Jeffs version with all newer kit parts like ypu restored Grandpas truck to your tastes without harming his build. I dont believe anything with this truck hasn't been reissued in the last 20 years. The bed is dark in the photo so I can't tell (on my phone) if that is a truck bed or from a rancharo. If you cant find any green that color look into nail polish colors. Sallys has a large selection.
BDSchindler Posted March 30 Posted March 30 Don't give up on it...it'll be a cool custom truck. Go for it!
junkyardjeff Posted April 21 Author Posted April 21 Working on the suspension and going to use a Y block from the Revell 57 Ranchero, hood does not open so there will be nothing on the top of the engine.
chris chabre Posted April 25 Posted April 25 LOVE IT!!!Had you not started working on it, Id be trying to buy it. Thats exactly the style stuff I build and collect
