As some of you know I used to own a 1972 Chevelle SS.  It was a "barn" find just up the road from my house.  I bought it with the intention of restoring it, but ended up losing my job just as I was beginning to make some calls.  I ended up having to sell it at a loss.  I was without a job for 2yrs and living off my savings.

This is the newest AMT version of the 72.  I got one the last time it was released as well.  I forgot just how terrible a kit it was.  the last one didn't even have the stripes in the decals even though they are shown on the box.  Luckily, this one did have the decals, and a few more at that.  Too bad the rest of the kit is garbage.  The whole front end is just wrong.  There's nothing holding it together until you glue the grill on.  The engine bay and underside are also lacking.  It took a lot to make it look this good. I still have to go back and do the tail lights and the turn signals at some point.  It was kind of a rush build.

This build is a recreation of what i wanted my car to look like when finished.  It's Cranberry Red with a white interior and red carpet.  However, mine was an automatic, and a bit of a Frankenstein car.  It was made up of what ever Chevelle parts the guy could find.  So it had a bench seat and standard dash.  It also had a 1971 grill.  I really miss it, but at least I got my hands on a future classic with my Challenger.

Very nice work and always a good color combination on this era Chevelle. I started one of these kits about a year ago which is still unfinished and they do require a lot of prep work prior to painting.

i thought they re engineered it like they have been doing with several other older kits to improve them recently
i really was wanting this kit but from what you said i am not sure if i will get one unless it is discounted price

Nice looking Chevelle, my brother had a ‘70 LS-6 4 Speed back in the day, then sold it and bought a ‘71 SS as well!

Same, unless they have another kit on the way.

it was the sslasher kit that was showed off last year at big show when they announced the 65 cuda and 72 duster and charger hellcat widebody and 60 chevy wagon kits   it looked like it was improved going by the assembled prototype model they had on the table

Well it was not an improvement other than the decals.  If anything it was worse than the previous kit.  This is the new Slasher kit and it was not great.  That mirror is also an add on.  I got it out the parts bin as well.  No mirrors in the kit at all.  If I can get to it; I need to add pics of the old kit.

Great looking finishes and you're able to finish it the way you would have done your 1:1 Chevelle. This kit was not one of AMT's better efforts.

Really cool results on this one. Great color, especially for collecting speeding tickets! LoL

I started one of these kits many years ago and ended up thrashing it into a replica of a friend's dirt track racer.

Thes red with black stripes always looks good.  Nice job on the build man.
