Awesome detailing, Pierre - the seat and dash look very 'purpose' built.  Treat to follow along.

Adding insulated mats. Made a paper pattern and replicated on medical fabric tape. Tape was painted gray, then dry brushed aluminium, then added PE fasteners.

The interior is looking really good so far! Excellent work with the detailing and weathering to get rid of the plastic look. Very nice work!

Pierre, this is the best use of the medical tape I have seen for the insulation mats. I will steal this from you, best I can, on my upcoming build. The rest of the interior shout's realism from any angle and the dash and gauges look perfect too.

Nice model taking shape!

I have also struggled with using braid for seatbelts. Leaded foil from wine bottles or aluminium kitchen foil is for me anyway, found to be better for  making seat belts. Far easier to fit PE buckles onto and stays put when it is positioned.

Thanks Niko, the interior does not look inviting but it was on purpose for this build.

Funny.... I thought I had stolen this from you? :D

Superb detailing again, Pierre  (I found your gear shifter already amazing) !

The shifter is just a pin from the jewelry section at Michael's, the booth is inspired by MarkJ's method. Steal is such an ugly word...

Good tip Noel. I need to try that. The braid belts don't look too convincing.

Thank Mark for that. Pretty easy and effective.

Interesting project. Excellent work.

Thanks Phil. I like to try new ideas. Might even do a Deuce! 😄

PE buckles are fighting me again. I wish I could find a brand where all the parts work. Anyhow... we have seatbelts on our ratty seat.

Perseverance Pierre, those belts look beautiful! And the color of the interior is perfect.

I think those belts would look fine on my Chaparral, what brand are they? The material also.

Greatstuff

And not so great stuff that needs serious fixing. After I mocked up everything I decided to make a change the front cage post... and forgot to check again. Dash panel butchery in process...

I started with Gofer lever type belts but ended up using only the 4 elements latching together (end of each strap). The shoulder adjusters were excessively fragile so I went to spares for these. The Gofer straps are also too wide for my taste (about 3mm) so I went with narrower straps from the spares.

Thank you, I printed a picture of your work to have as a model when I do mine.

Awesome build, cant wait to see more! I miss racing on the salt, but I hope to go back one day, my personal goal is 250 mph.

my only critiques would be the floors would be bare and the stock seat would not have been allowed, SCTA has been the most strict tech Ive ever gone through with good reason

Thanks for providing valuable insight Chris. I have extremely limited knowledge and obviously making mistakes here. I'm dating this build to a 1995-2000 run and (wrongly) assumed rules were not as strict then. If you are shooting for 250, does that mean you already have your red hat?

I have a question? I finished the bumpers with rust effects. I'm not sure it is good enough, and perhaps too much of the rust theme here. I'm considering stripping them and going for a black finish. Might make the car look a bit more sinister.

So what do you guys think, keep the rusty chrome or go with a black finish?

I'm voting keep the rusty bumpers. It would be sad to cover up all that phenomenal work to create the effect you have achieved. JMHO.

I'm going with your call on the rusty bumpers.  I Ilike the idea of breaking up the colors with black or more chrome.  But if left alone, they will l have that much rust.

weight is your friend on the salt. you'll routinely see weight added to cars. If you've ever driven at speed on packed snow, you'll understand this

the car floats and you drive with your gas pedal, not necessarily the steering wheel
