This is a Revell Dart I am working on. I made some little angles from 26ga. metal and glued them to the kit hinges with CA at about a 45 degree angle.

Then I used epoxy to glue some 8mm (cause that’s what I had) neodymium magnets inside the body.

The hood can now be lifted and the angles will sit on top of the magnets.

With all my fiddling around, I broke one side so I reinforced them by filling the outer side with CA.

A bonus of this is I can use a couple of magnets to hold the hood for painting. This could possibly work for other models besides the Dart?🤷‍♂️

That’s ingenious! I’ve used magnets to keep a stubborn hood down, but never up.

Thanks for sharing.

I've been doing something similar for a while, but in a slightly different way.

Using the magnets, I've been making the hood hinges removable so that the model can be displayed with the hood in the open position, closed, or removed completely to better display the engine.

It's not as "self contained" as the hinges need to be kept separately with the model, but it eliminates the slots in the firewall, which I always had disdain for.

Steve, Very clever solution. I have never liked the slots either. Do you provide a place in the engine bay, magnetically, to store the hinges when the hood is closed?

I haven't to this point, but I suppose that could be an option......if space is available.

I used the same technique for my '68 Dodge.
