Looks like Round 2 has smartly updated their S10 Xtreme kit to the 1999 model year with the revised front end!

Somebody correct me, if I'm wrong but these Dave Carlock designed kits (S-10 trucks and Blazers plus the Ford Rangers and Explorers) were very nice kits, so great to see that the folks at Round2 is making these era kits even better.

Put me down a case of the s-10s, hopefully they updated the dash as well, can’t tell from the pics I’ve seen, first project will be to combine it with one of the 95-97 Blazers and create this

I had one over 20 years ago and it was nice. The body kit is also optional so it can be built with a stock body if you want. I can't remember if it has the stock bumper in this version or not.

Ha, circle is unbroken... a client of mine from agency days was an engineer on the ZQ8 S-10 project.  Small (literally) world!

Very nice kit, indeed.

A small-enough SBC could barely fit in the engine bay. Just like real ones I guess.

Would buy a new copy for sure...

Built the Sonoma squillions of years ago; a very nice sister kit. It came with optional custom body cladding and custom nose treatment, which are still present in the most-recent release that came with the bonus snowboard and ski boots.

Very excited for this updated Xtreme version; thank you Round 2!

These are nice kits. I built a couple of the Somonas when they came out. Also loved the Blazer version.

It's more than the dash. The seat upholstery patterns and the door panels are quite different as well. I hope this repop has an accurate 1998-2003 interior as well.

It is interesting to me how few "exclusive" parts went into the ZQ8 trucks. My utility vehicle that once was a daily driver is a 1994 2.2 5 speed that was originally owned by my neighbor two doors away. I bought it for $1500 in February 2008. I added junkyard ZQ8 sway bars and e-bay 1998 ZQ8 wheels. I didn't swap the steering box or springs. Added aftermarket Bilstein shocks. I can't believe how well it handles, but you have to deal with the pretty much zero acceleration.

I have a Perry's Resin transkit that someday I will build.

Very glad to see the updated S-10.  Always seemed strange that AMT never did the 1998 updates when those trucks were new.  Hopefully the updates include a proper 1998+ style rear bumper too.  Don't see one on the display model.

As noted, would be nice to see the dash/interior updates, but I admit I'd be happy enough with just a correct exterior.

Those Xtremes (both S-10 and Blazer versions) were EVERYWHERE 25 years ago.  I had several friends with them.  I seriously considered getting one also, but just couldn't get past the lack of a V8.

I looked into building a real one with a 402 Chevy big block. Space under the hood is limited... but for a model I would go for at least a turbo charged engine.

Can this kit be built as a regular/base model S-10?

No. Back when this kit was made AMT/Ertl was making annuals of the S-10 & Sonoma, this kit came last in the line after the single headlight grille style ended. It doesn't have stock wheels or front/rear bumpers. You might be able to get 98% of the way there by swapping out the bumpers from the Sonoma reissue from a few years back.

Here's what's in the box of the original Dave Carlock designed kit.

Hopefully Steve G. can share some info on the new revised kit. Anyway I'm buying.20250502_083418.jpg.1e7f2e6d6d0d1c9bfaa5c70dbbdc6f5f.jpg20250502_083334.jpg.eb93b0620591cdf24105bb577eadc504.jpg20250502_083955.jpg.e487ae2448f1d14ccd6c45490a781fd8.jpg

The reason this kit has been absent since 2002 is that it was missing some of the Xtreme version mold inserts. In the process the retooling the missing parts I able to get enough extra bucks to tool up the '98 style grille, front bumper and lamps.  Everything else is the same. Kudos to Dave Carlock, I was impressed on how detailed this kit really is.  It's an overlooked gem in my book.  The last box art in 2002 was terrible and did nothing to show how nice it is.  This time we're getting new illustrations by Sean Svendsen.

I wish I could have done more of the '98 and up restyling updates like the interior parts, however the more I dug, the more changes I found.  Rather than risk having the project kicked down the road, or worse canceled outright, I decided to quit while I was ahead.

Yeah, I think the carpet is the same 🙂

Seat patterns, dash, console, and door panels are definitely different on the 1998-up. Interior door handle position was moved a bit as well.

You did good Steve.

Remembers me of a wheeler dealer episode where they "upgraded" an older Range Rover with newer style grille and head plus taillamps to make it more desirable for the market.

Cheers!

I'm just grateful that you got to have it green lighted! I'm 44, so I'm always happy to see kits from my "nostalgia years" I.E. 80's, 90's and early 2000's! I don't care about the interior or styling update inaccuracies, because prior to reading the comments, I had no idea about those. And people checking out my models on the shelves at home will also be none the wiser. And Luc brought up a good point; I also did the same thing with my previous daily driver 1998 Ford Ranger. It was a 4 banger single cab stepside, and I later converted the front end to a 2003 with a Ranger Edge Powerdome hood, grille, headlights and bumper. And I also had Ranger Level II Alcoa wheels, so pretty much a melting pot of Ranger parts! I'll definetly get one of those XTreme kits, and speaking of the Ranger, if R2 ever bring back the Ranger Splash kit (which is on my want list) I wouldn't mind the same updated treatment, even if it's not 100% accurate to the very last detail!

Honestly they just need to release the Splash kit and throw in the 1995 grille plus a new decal sheet and I would be happy!

Canuck 3D has the 98 up interior parts for the AMT 90s S10/Sonoma/Blazer trucks, as well as the grille/ headlamps for the same. I'd love to see a full detail 4 door Blazer/ Jimmy. I have several of those kits. They're very nice.2008_1220xmasmomameeting080003.jpg.8896b19e7f85cff148515ce57d551ac8.jpg2008_1220xmasmomameeting080046.jpg.c8b0c2a98371aad5c6708258e69401df.jpg2005_01140009.jpg.18922fd81033b70d0d5b2f0c4675b188.jpg

Count me in for one of those Blazers! Either a 4 door to do a correct replica of that Mooneyes truck I saw in Truckin' Magazine back in 1995, or a 2 door to do a "what if" version of that truck!!!
