hedotwo Posted May 23 Posted May 23 Overall happy with this one, but not without problems along the way that I didn't go back to correct.ย It's now in the display case and I'm relieved it's over.ย Nice kit from Diolex and went together ok but had the usual wrestling with fit and finish.ย Scalefinishes 68 Pontiac Nightshade Green airbrushed with Tamiya Racing While (flattened with semi gloss afterwards) for the vinyl top.ย Thanks for looking. 24
AMT68 Posted May 23 Posted May 23 Great looking build with excellent detailing. As an admirer of green and white cars I appreciate the color combination. The GP that year had to be amongst the earliest GM cars with a Halo style vinyl roof.ย
Perspect Scale Modelworks Posted May 23 Posted May 23 That came out very nice. Did the body need much sanding?
Falcon Ranchero Posted May 23 Posted May 23 I like it, really I do; the '68 Grand Prix is an attractive car to begin with, your model looks just as good.

The printed bodies I've done so far have all required more sanding than styrene obviously.ย It's probably the biggest drawback but it can be done if you have patience.ย Each one I build I get better at it.ย I also use Mr Surfacer 500 as my first primer coat.ย It's a bit heavier primer and I find it helps with the little fine printer lines you might miss.ย I just recieved another order from Diolex (the GP was bought last year) and the three kits all seem to be somewhat smoother but still look to need a fair amount of sanding.ย I'm currently prepping a 70 Cad Deville convertible and spent yesterday aft sanding.ย I'd say it's almost close enough to prime.ย There always seems to be a printer line that's usually obvious on the top of the front fenders, behind the wheels.ย I know next to nothing about how these are printed but those are the spots that take the most effort to correct.ย At least for me. kelson Posted May 23 Posted May 23 Looks good in that color combo๐,i've debated one as i've seen it listed on Ebay.
espo Posted May 23 Posted May 23 Beautiful paint finish and vinyl roof. The body proportions look perfect. Like the color choices and the interior.ย

RomanII Posted May 24 Posted May 24 You did a really nice job on this Grand Prix!ย I'm impressed with the careful detailing around the halo top.ย The kits shown on ebay all have separate fender skirts.ย I can't figure that out.ย Skirts were standard on the Grand Prix, and printing them in place would be better for those of us who prefer stock replicas.ย Removal is easy with a grinder if an open rear wheel is wanted by the builder.ย ย It reminds me of the AMT kits of earlier GPs where skirts were separate.ย They were always aggravating.ย Thanks for sharing pics of your fine replica.
STU111 Posted May 24 Posted May 24 (edited) Beautifully finished old Pontiac, sheโd make a great Sunday driver in 1:1, l love it. That vinyl roof is nicely rendered too. ๐๐ป Edited May 24 by STU111
iwantmodels Posted May 24 Posted May 24 Wow!!ย Gorgeous model.ย You did it justice.ย Had a neighbor who had one in Verdoro Green with the Parchment vinyl top and interior.ย Didn't think I'd ever see one of these in 1/25 scale.ย ย
