Rodent Posted July 25 Posted July 25 (edited) The weird thing is that I am not really opposed to ads. I am opposed to the garbage ads that are too large, interfering with the display of the forum. If they were able to sell ad space on the forum to Round2, Revell, Testors, etc. I would be more than happy to click on them. Not interested in footwear, stupid T-shirts or any of the other garbage that floats up here. Edited July 25 by Rodent added image 2 1

In Wisconsin they are available at no cost. I love it here. Edited July 25 by lordairgtar

Having ALWAYS had a "unique" sense of humor, sometimes have a habit of clicking on the t-shirt ads, in order to enlarge them (in order to read them), BUT, that doesn't mean that I want the "near porn" ads (that DAVE brought up) popping up in the middle of looking at someone's newest model car/truck creation. I have "found out the hard way" that you have to be careful of "what" you search for (wording can be EVERYTHING)........ For instance, had a brand new set of headers that I was going to sell as the car had a brand new set with it when it showed up, and they weren't needed as "shelf decor". Had grabbed the reducers out for another project, local warehouse was out, catalogs back at the shop across town, so, crank up the laptop to get the part number for the reducers....... HOOKER HEADERS, so, try Hooker Headers. Com., and end up with someone that had obviously hussled the name out from under the company in order to sell it back to them for "big bucks", so next try, oh yea, really!!!!), HOOKER.com. .......... "Stuff" started popping-up hundreds of times faster than I could attempt to block/delete it!!!!! Finally just "crashed" it off woth the power button..... Call #2 son (our family "I.T." guy), tell him I need his help, NOW!!!! After he finds out what I've done (and rolls on the floor laughing til tears), took him several minutes to clean up the mess..... All this to say: BE CAREFUL how you phrase what you are searching for using search engines!!!!! 😉 DJ ps: don't mind ads, just keep em "PG" rated 😊 1
Xingu Posted Wednesday at 10:16 PM Posted Wednesday at 10:16 PM We have ad settings that are supposed to keep the naughty ads out. The problem is that the ad companies are better and quicker at figuring out how to sneak them in than the software company is at keeping them out. All we can do is follow the rules and check the right boxes to try and keep them out. 3
Dave Ambrose Posted Thursday at 03:33 PM Posted Thursday at 03:33 PM Google is the consummate frenemy. They generate the revenue to keep the server running. They can't always defeat the bad actors that game the system. This has actually gotten better, thanks to AI. It's a bit like a puppy that wants to please you, but sometimes tinkles on the floor. I'm going to suggest something unconventional. Start clicking on the ads that are acceptable, or even better, interesting. That will train the algorithm to your preferences, and should eventually solve the problem. You can also report inappropriate ads. There's usually a little white rectangle in an upper corner that will bring down a menu with several options. Both of these will alleviate the problem. 1
Straightliner59 Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago I've noticed that the ads I see are related to my browsing history. For instance, when I'm doing research for a project, the ads will often be for Jeg's, or something similar. I was doing research for BBC engine blocks, and the ads were for crate motors. Currently, it's ads for homes in a new subdivision, and Etsy. Nothing salacious at this time...dangit!😅 2
