Tamiya 1/24th scale kit.  One of the many factory colors offered was Fire Red Pearl; it looks a lot like Tamiya Mica Red so I'll use the LP paint for the exterior.

The kit is molded in a dark charcoal metallic so I used Tamiya AS-12 Bare Metal Silver as a barrier after doing the normal clean-up.

I decanted it and reduced it with Tamiya lacquer thinner.  It took two lights coats to cover fully, but when it dried I was really happy with the smooth and thin finish.

The LP-42 was also thinned with Tamiya lacquer thinner and airbrushed in two coats.

While the finish looked smooth and uniform, after it fully dried it wasn't as glossy as the Pearl Blue I used on the NSX.  It may have been polished out, but with the more predominate flake this color has, I thought I'd use the Tamiya LP-9 Clear Gloss to bring up the shine.

Again it was reduced with the Tamiya lacquer thinner for better flow and smoother gloss.  This clear works very well and is quite forgiving.  It also dries as quickly as the colors in the LP line.  This is how it looked about 12 hours after clear coating.  (If you are looking for a good clear gloss and have not tried this yet, it is well worth looking into.)

Mark...this is one awesome kit and you are off to a great start.  Your paint technique is spot on and you got very good results. You will really enjoy this build. Look forward to the finished product.

Like the color. I'm doing an old AMT '36 Ford on the work bench now that I painted that color.

Looks great Mark! I love that color on it. Every time I see one of these being built,it makes me want to start on the one I have.

It's a great kit! Most of this pan is one piece, a bit of detail paint goes a long way to make it look more complicated than it actually is.

LOVE the colour you've done, I did mine in black.

Looks great, Mark. The Mica Red is a great color for this car. Sometimes I wish I'd gone for something brighter like this when I built mine as the metallic black I went with blends a little too well with the carbon fiber accents.

I can’t see the pictures from the UK so I’m guessing Imgur-hosted. One thing I learned doing mine: find a decal sheet with some area of clear carrier film, and apply the metal stickers to that, then apply them like any normal decal. They are a pain to get off the sheet and into the right place on the car, and much easier to apply to a flat sheet on your workbench. I suspect the older these kits get, the more temperamental the glue on those metal stickers will become, too.
best,

M.

Would it be possible to try reloading your pictures directly from your PC to this site Mark?  At least you have the option to do so on this site unlike a British site I also use on which it is necessary to use hosts. I am a UK user and Imgur has been made unusable this side of the pond whatever site Imgur has been used on.

From what I have gathered from just reading your text, it appears that a good model is taking shape here.
