tim boyd Posted October 19 Posted October 19 Seven members of the Minneapolis/St. Paul based "RPM" (Racing Plastic Models) model club were among the first ever "Civilians" (people other than Moebius/Pegasus and their contractors/vendors) to take a look inside the new Moebius 1964 Mercury Comet "K-Code" full detail model kit, on Saturday, October 18, 2025. Let's take a closer look at what they saw when the X-Acto knife broke the seal on the kit... This link leads to 45+ images of each of the parts trees in the kit, decals, and each section of the instruction sheet. At the end are some more photos of the body with the hood installed, and then with the front and rear bumpers and grilles. Note that the decision to include the hood with scoops meant the necessity of an expensive sliding tool feature to accommodate the hood and scoop into a single part. Please let me know if you have any follow-up questions in the comments section and use the "Roll View" feature to look at the images in sequence. Thanks for looking! TIM 6 1
Craig Irwin Posted October 19 Posted October 19 (edited) Looks good! I was glad to hear of this version coming, I'm no fan of pro-touring cars. Edited October 19 by Craig Irwin
64Comet404 Posted October 19 Posted October 19 I am looking forward to getting this one, having owned a pair of '64 Comets for a total of 38 years. I am hoping that an enterprising 3D entrepreneur will give us some of the pieces which Moebius did not have the opportunity to change from their '65 kit (such as the '66 inner fenders) and possibly giving us the Caliente side trim and teardrop hood to do the A/FX cars.
gtx6970 Posted Monday at 04:30 PM Posted Monday at 04:30 PM (edited) I have a Teardrop hood for the AMT kit Wonder how well it fits this new car , if at all I have NO idea when or where i got them, or who made them I have 2 of the AMT kits in the stash Edited Monday at 04:31 PM by gtx6970
gtx6970 Posted Monday at 04:40 PM Posted Monday at 04:40 PM (edited) Ps Said AMT kit has the side trim Be real curious how well the 2 kits can be combined to make nice Caliente. On a side note. did the 1/1 car have underhood duct work to make the scoops functional Edited Monday at 04:46 PM by gtx6970

The dual scoop hood should have the ductwork on the lower side. I don't know what the ductwork looks like for the Weber carb setup, but the dual quad setup should have ductwork resembling the one pictured below. Notice it is a mirror image of the one in the AMT '65 Fairlane kit.

TIM Tim, does the '64 share any parts with the '65?

I'm not Tim (obviously) but from looking at the photos it would appear that most of the mechanical (chassis, engine etc.) parts are identical to the '65. There are a few things I might have liked to see them fix, but such is life.

Ron and Steve...don't have the time right now (sorry) to do this comparison. But my going in best guess is exactly the same as Steve's above. Now that the kit in at least one mail order source (Spotlight Hobbies) and probably others, hopefully someone else here on the board can do the complete comparo and answer your question....TIM
Mark Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago Chassis and engine parts are shared with the '65 kits. Clear parts too, as I'm seeing '64 taillight lenses on the '65 B/FX clear tree.
