Harry P. Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 I can't make up my mind, so a very simple question. Add a black panel... Or leave as is...
Eshaver Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 O K since ya asked nicely Harry , Go with the panel as it brings out the convertable top . Ed Shaver
Zoom Zoom Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 Black panel will look okay, though with your stripes and taillight surrounds you start to border on making it look a bit too "JC Whitney" before it's all said and done. Ditch the chrome and put in the sequential taillight blinkers that look so cool on the 2010's. And no, do not put on a big blob of bird poop over the upper left corner of your rear window, it totally destroys the balance of the design
Harry P. Posted June 9, 2009 Author Posted June 9, 2009 wait a minute you said you bought a GT, who's car is this? Dave Just a photo I grabbed off the internet. We generally don't use California plates in Illinois!
Harry P. Posted June 9, 2009 Author Posted June 9, 2009 And no, do not put on a big blob of bird poop over the upper left corner of your rear window, it totally destroys the balance of the design
Guest promodmerc Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 I say leave it as is. I think the black panel cheapens the look of the car. And I knew the car wsn't Harry's
Harry P. Posted June 9, 2009 Author Posted June 9, 2009 so in Chicago it's quite possible that the "fake" bullet holes are for real? or is that Detroit? could be Washington D.C. too we get out of our car at the local Wally World recently to find the car parked next to us has a shotgun blast through the rear door, and i mean all the way through! i like the black panel, the honeycomb Mach 1 style even better. is there any aftermarket companies that do the ribbed '67 style? Dave I've seen smooth black and the honeycomb style, but no '67 style. Maybe I just haven't looked hard enuff yet...
Joe Handley Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 (edited) I'd black it out....with paint! Talked to a guy a few months back who did that on his V-6 car and got the vinyl sticker on fleebay and from what he told me it was a poor fit and he could see red paint around the fake filler cap where the sticker went around it. so in Chicago it's quite possible that the "fake" bullet holes are for real? or is that Detroit? could be Washington D.C. too we get out of our car at the local Wally World recently to find the car parked next to us has a shotgun blast through the rear door, and i mean all the way through! i like the black panel, the honeycomb Mach 1 style even better. is there any aftermarket companies that do the ribbed '67 style? Dave Depends on where you live out here I do like the ribbed idea, maybe if you spray the flat finish, do it in a mix of flat and satin to fake the ribbed panel look. Now that I look at it more, I'd even black out the parts orf the deck lid, bumper, and quarters that surround the tails, and I think the chrome tail light trim would help set that off. Just leave off that goofy looking third brake light trim, who ever thought that looks good needs a Jethro Gibbs headslap. Edited June 9, 2009 by Joe Handley
Foxer Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 With both views together, I like the black better. The black top does help this as Ed says also. It just looks plain without the black, even though I'm not usually a fan of big blacked out areas like this
B_rad88 Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 hey harry, wuz up? first i would like to say thank you for rom every week! and second i will say go with the black panel! or how about the saleen s281 rear panel? or how about the parnelli jones limited edition mustang rear panle? just some ideas!
Chuck Most Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 Go with the black. I'm not sure about the taillamp bezels, but they look better with the blacked out panel.
Harry P. Posted June 9, 2009 Author Posted June 9, 2009 I'd black it out....with paint! What type/brand? Duplicolor Trim Paint? Something else? I want to keep this simple, so spray can, no spray gun/compressor. Any paint pros out there? I want a flat or semigloss black, no gloss.
Chuck Most Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 Krylon Rust Tough Flat Black... Oh, wait a minute... you want it to look GOOD. Can't help you there, Harry!
old-hermit Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 As the Stones once said, "Paint it Black" (the spoiler too). Plasti-kote flat black primer first, then Plasti-kote Hot Rod Black.
sfhess Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 Krylon Satin Black. ...and forget the sequential turn signals. They belong on COUGARS, not Mustangs!!!!!!
Harry P. Posted June 9, 2009 Author Posted June 9, 2009 Krylon Satin Black. ...and forget the sequential turn signals. They belong on COUGARS, not Mustangs!!!!!! Apparently Ford thinks they belong on Mustangs. The 2010 Mustangs have them.
MikeMc Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 Neither....Carbon fibre for the panel and then blackout the lenses
Aaronw Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 I think the black looks better too, however it looks like your car is darker and has stripes, so... As far as sequintial tail lights didn't the California Specials have those too?
Guest promodmerc Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 Krylon Satin Black. ...and forget the sequential turn signals. They belong on COUGARS, not Mustangs!!!!!! They originally came on T-Birds. Don't forget Shelby's had them as well.
george 53 Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 Duhhhhhh, the tailights are sequential? I did not know that! Thank you's. ( an black out that chrome trim ring around the tailights while your at it!)
Harry P. Posted June 9, 2009 Author Posted June 9, 2009 Neither....Carbon fibre for the panel and then blackout the lenses That does sound cool, but I'm such a sucker for the whole "retro" deal that I already applied the chrome tail light bezels! I do think I'm liking the idea of the black panel to sort of set off the chrome bezels.
