nts Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 We started a VW beetle contest on the Modelbuilderforum in sweden in januari, it ended today , this is my contestcar. Torgny / Sweden
Chuck Most Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 Wow... just awesome. I particularly like the fadeaway fender job.
mr moto Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 Great re-styling! I've always thought that the beetle was just waiting for somebody to bring out the great lines that are kind of hidden in it. Excellent job!
george 53 Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 I gotta agree wit Mr.Moto, the restyled fenders is da MOOK!!! They really came out NICE! Personally, I woulda frenched the taillights so they wouldn't look like little nipples stickin out there, but that's just me, All in all, a REALLY NICE biuld!
Foxer Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 (edited) Yes,, looks fine and great fender treatment! Did you use sheet plastic to rough shape the fenders? It would weigh 20 pounds if all Bondo.. Edited June 30, 2009 by Foxer

67PontiacGTO Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 The body lines resemble a Rolls Royce Silver Cloud from the 60's. Very Cool! Clutch:)
flatheadgary Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 awhile back steve sanford drew several vw rods in a hot vw book. i built the purple cruzer and this style was also there. i thought about doing one like this but, i don't have that much skill yet. torgny, excellent work!
Guest Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 Wow, incredible design and work, what is that color? I love it.
nts Posted June 30, 2009 Author Posted June 30, 2009 Wow, incredible design and work, what is that color? I love it. The paint is from a autoshop, cheep metalic but if you put right amount and silver under it gets like this, someting like the old glitterpaint from the 70:s. Hard to explain, but it looks just the way i wanted. Torgny
Bernard Kron Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 (edited) Great buil;d. Superb craftsmanship. The pictures showing the fadeaway reveal that you started with a late series sedan and yet you achieved the feel and look of the Series 1. How did you make the top? Edited June 30, 2009 by gbk1
FenderMender Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 Reminds me of the back half of 1940 Lincoln Continental and the front fenders from some classic '30s car, like a Hispano Suiza, perhaps! Excellent work! Great follow-thru. Fine paint job. The top appears to be a possible Carson top? Congrats on the build and here's to you coming in first at the competition!
Joe Handley Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 Neat, there was a 1/1 Bug like that in Custom Rodder (or was that Kustom Rodder) many years ago but it was a drop top from the factory instead of having to make it one like you did. I'll have to see if I can find the pics on line!
TomA Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 V-E-R-Y NICE Torgny! That is one stylish bug with lots of cred! You are a talented person indeed. I like the Carson top, it sets it off well. Beautiful all round build on this one.
nts Posted July 1, 2009 Author Posted July 1, 2009 Great buil;d. Superb craftsmanship. The pictures showing the fadeaway reveal that you started with a late series sedan and yet you achieved the feel and look of the Series 1. How did you make the top? I don´t have any pictures of the roofbuild (sorry) but i took it from a lindberg kit (a ford -53 con) . Then i had to fill up the rear end with plasticcard to make the caracteristic little window from the early VW. The paint is a acrylic paint from warhammer,it is quite thick so after applying i took a brusch and pusch it straight in the surface ,so it make the surface "bumpy"(hope you understand my english is a little rusty). It´s very important for me to always keep the orginal lines and detailing as mutch as possible,( I don´t like to hide the cartype in customtricks, just follow up the orginal lines). Torgny
