seeker589 Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 (edited) Really - Has anyone tooled and manufactured a Prius model kit? They are in Gran Turismo. They could sell in model form. The Tree-huggers might want the kit to be made of recycled soda bottles and the box made out of hemp or recycled toilet paper, though. It could come with a free pair fo Berkinstocks?! Guest Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 I'd build it with 426 screaming cubic inches of fossile fuel burning power!!!!!!!
Zoom Zoom Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 No kit of the Prius...yet. There is a pretty neat Matchbox of an '08 Prius, and there's a Tomica toy of it. At the hobby show in Japan in September, Fujimi showed a couple early-stage mockups of 1/24 2010 Prius & Lexus HS models, apparently they were done to gauge interest, there is no guarantee...most observers thought the Prius was a good idea but the Lexus would be a waste of time, it just looks like a weird Corolla...a bit too esoteric whereas the Prius is iconic. It would be fun to have a Prius model...I like the teardrop shape since it's not a cookie-cutter boring sedan look. They could make it an iconic Japanese kit & throw a battery pack & Mabuchi motor in it

george 53 Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 WHY??????? and I DON'T think a prius is something the "Treehugger" would go for,'less of course, he could rod it out!

beefheart22 Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 I'd build it with 426 screaming cubic inches of fossile fuel burning power!!!!!!! Like your thinking!!
Guest Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 Thanks! Glad I'm not the only one with the b#lls to say it!
Jon Cole Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 (edited) I would buy a kit of a Prius... this Prius! Edited December 11, 2009 by Spyder

They could make it an iconic Japanese kit & throw a battery pack & Mabuchi motor in it There's also a die-cast pull-back toy of the Prius by Kinsmart. I don't recall for sure- but I think it's 1/50 scale (it's about four inches long). Now that everybody is done laughing- those Kinsmart 'kids toys' are actually pretty detailed for what they are. They also have a Dodge Power Wagon concept, a Dodge Caliber, and a '98-'03 Ford Crown Vic Police car. I have the Caliber and two of the Crown Vics (one of which I plan to convert into an '03 Mercury Marauder). They're pretty nicely detailed, the proportions look good, and they cost about five bucks. Sure, the doors open on big bulky dogleg hinges, and the chassis have little to no detail at all, but they're almost too nice to be toys! I like Bob's idea- if ever a kit needed and electric motor and battery pack... a Prius kit would be the one! Personally, though, I'd much rather have a kit of a first-gen Honda Insight. Yeah, I know it's not a 'true' hybrid (the gas engine is always running), but it looks way cooler than the Prius and the new Insight, which looks exactly like the Prius. Who was it that said "Modern cars are designed by the wind, and the wind always says the same thing"?
Guest Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 (edited) I would buy a kit of a Prius... this Prius! It needs the salt flats to reach that breakneck speed? My Saturn will do that, without salt flats. Not impressive. Now, 300+ on salt flats is. Back in the days of horsepower and cubic inches, that is the kind of speed they attained, maybe even faster. Brian Fishburn Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 (edited) I'd build it with 426 screaming cubic inches of fossile fuel burning power!!!!!!! And on a 4 wheel drive Hummer chassis! With a spotted owl for a hood ornament. Edited December 2, 2009 by Brian Fishburn
BigGary Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 Don't forget the Baby Seal Eyes for hubcaps..... I'm with lee. the Prius with a blown Hemi would be great, kind of like the Citreon with a blown 351 that somebody built. The aerodynamics of the Prius would be great, and make more than 130 mph on the salt flats. Bet they didn't do that on the battery. Gary
charlie8575 Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 I like the idea of a street-rod Prius. Although to be a bit more "sensitive" to the Japanese, I'd consider using that lovely inline-6 out of the Supra/Cressida....and lengthen/raise the nose accordingly. Sick, I know. Either that, or widen it ala' Volvo S80. Other ideas: 1. Diorama with the owner of said smug-mobile being attacked by an angry mob of drivers of real cars, after being boxed in by said cars. 2. Accordioned between a mid-60s Cadillac and Lincoln at a stop light. 3. Placing a squirrel-cage under the hood and displaying it as an open-hood model. That might give the real one more power. 4. Monster-truck fodder. Charlie Larkin

Chuck Most Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 How about Monster truck fodder with Al Gore inside? Gary Or how about a monster-truck Prius? Sure, it wouldn't be able to move under it's own power, but it would be so adorable just sitting there in the arena!
Rob Hall Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 A Prius kit would be cool, esp. a full detail w/ the gas engine and electric motor and battery pack. It also would be cool to retrofit the drivetrain and battery pack into a '32 Ford kit to freak out the traditionalist rodders!
Nick Winter Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 this screams dio, of a Prius and it's driver meeting a guy driving a 70's lifted hunter's truck, ready for mud bogging, boy I can already see what would happen.
Joe Handley Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 I'd have no intrest what so ever in a Prius, but would love to have a full detail Volt or that hybrid with the same name as the scissors
