made007 Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 (edited) When i finish up pachenko i will star this project, what you think? Edited February 13, 2011 by made007
dwc43 Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 Would love to see it. I've wanted one of those cars for like, forever. Can't wait to see how you do it without a kit.
Greg Pugh Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 How funny. I've never even heard of that movie.
Rick R Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 CARS FOR THE MOVIE were built from wrecked/used Mark III Continentals at Barris' shops in SoCal. The main thing you'd be looking for is the 'chopped' roofline, best sourced from the AMT '70 T'Bird. the rest of te body was just rolled sheetmetal welded at the inside of the 'roll'. Do the same thing with sheet plastic... Hardest part will be the bumpers and grille... Good luck!
Kanedge Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 I love this movie. Can't wait to see how you make this one.
Jantrix Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 I've alwasys wanted to make an updated version of this. I thought that the AMT 300C would be perfect, but just never got around to it.
David G. Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 Without a doubt, one of the coolest movie cars ever, seeing it in 1:25 would be awesome. David G.

Jantrix Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 There IS a resin kit of the Car. It's a full curbside kit, but I have seen a few build ups that look right on the money.
hoopty388 Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 I love old b horror movies, but never heard of that one. it's on my list now.lol
Casey Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 Honk, honk-honk-honk... I guess they didn't have spike strips back then? Cool project.

John Pirog Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 A W E S O M E !!!! The Car is my all time favorite movie! I had a chance to buy one of the metal models of that car some years ago for 40 bucks, passed it up and I've been kicking myself ever since!!
peter31a Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 Rob, My reaction when Chrysler started showing previews of the 300C was: "My God Chrysler is releasing a new car based on the movie vehicle The Car.How do they expect to sell cars based on a horror movie?" I've mellowed towards the 300 but I still think they used The Car as a prototype.
VW Dave Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 The main thing you'd be looking for is the 'chopped' roofline Actually, the real cars used in the movie didn't have their tops chopped; Barris' crew built up the sides of the body in the 'shoulder' area, covering the bottom couple inches of the glass. After studying my buddy's '69 Mark III, it's pretty clear how they pulled it off. I'm a long-time fan of that film, and I'd also like to see what comes of this proposed build.

VW Dave Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 I grabbed a couple of comparison pics to show the 'anti-chop' treatment. The movie 'Car,' image borrowed from imcdb.org: My buddy Tom's unrestored '69 Mark III, snapped at my house: You could probably get away with using a 70's Caddy Coupe DeVille for the roof/hood and get away with it, IMO. I have chrome bumpers from a Hasegawa VW Bus that can be sectioned & pieced into that front one.....made007: email me when you are ready to start gathering pieces.

Skydime Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 (edited) When i finish up pachenko i will star this project, what you think? Man, I hope you finish Pachenko's car soon. I've been waiting to see one of these as a WIP since I've been on MCM. BTW, I just found this as well...figured it may be a good reference in smaller scale. I think it might be a little cooler with some dust and weathering...and perhaps some red lights behind slammer windows sprayed with VHT Nightshades or black Metalcast from the inside. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=peGdgSF5YDg&NR=1 Edited February 24, 2011 by Skydime
made007 Posted February 24, 2011 Author Posted February 24, 2011 (edited) i foun some good info on george barris website, check it out: http://www.barris.com/gallery_cars/TV_MovieCars/gallery_thecar.html Edited February 24, 2011 by made007
Skydime Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 Hmm, maybe you could incorporate the ram the rolls the car into it.
made007 Posted February 24, 2011 Author Posted February 24, 2011 ^^i think that rear bumper is wrong, not sure, have to see the movie again, but i dont remember it like that, btw heres the kit im gonna use:
Skydime Posted February 25, 2011 Posted February 25, 2011 (edited) Yeah, I think there are a couple differences. That's gonna be quite a transformation from an old four door wagon to The Car. Can't wait to see it. Edited February 25, 2011 by Skydime
made007 Posted February 25, 2011 Author Posted February 25, 2011 that wagon is a lincoln from the 60'S or something, i found it on ebay and it wasnt cheap
